Chapter 1056

Kenny was also worried about Thalassa. Since Darwin had spoken in such a manner, he did not linger. He left directly and returned to the maternity care center.

However, on the way, Kenny kept thinking about Darwin's demeanor when he spoke earlier.

It was very strange, which was as if the old Darwin had returned, but something still seemed missing.

The next morning, the doctor came to check on Chicago again. "There's no problem now. Just keep an eye on her for the next few days to see if she suddenly develops a fever. If she does, inform the doctor immediately to prevent a lung infection."

"Doctor, can I be discharged now? My puppy is still at the pet hospital!" Chicago mentioned Jessie and immediately choked up.

"You can. But you must be careful in the future and stay away from dangerous places like the river. Your parents were very worried," the doctor said.

"Yes!" Chicago nodded vigorously.

Darwin and Fiona exchanged a glance.

Chicago had done something wrong, and it was impossible for her to go unpunished.

Fiona's punishment for Chicago was simple. Since yesterday, no matter how much she asked, no one told her how Jessie was doing.

Last night, she even dreamed that Jessie had died and woke up crying loudly.

Fiona had initially planned to keep it from her for a while longer. Darwin, unable to bear seeing Chicago so upset, told her that Jessie was not dead and that they would take her to see him at dawn.

However, although Jessie was alive, the injury was not minor. The wound on her side, cut by a stone, was deep enough to see the bone.

Fortunately, Jessie had been eating and drinking well and exercising a lot over the past year, making her a robust little dog. A more fragile dog might not have survived.

As soon as the car stopped at the pet hospital, Chicago unbuckled her seatbelt and jumped out of the car, running quickly into the hospital.

When Fiona and Darwin followed her in, they found Chicago holding Jessie, extremely upset.

Fiona could vaguely hear her saying, "I thought you were dead! What would I do if you died, Jessie!"

Fiona looked on and suddenly smiled.

Darwin glanced at her. "What are you smiling about?"

Fiona said, "I just suddenly remembered that last year when you saved Jessie, Chicago was even more devastated than she is now, thinking Jessie wouldn't make it. Then Thalassa tried to comfort her by saying, 'Even if Death himself came, he would have to bow to your father.'"

"Thalassa really knows how to praise me. Luckily, we saved her," Darwin said, suddenly becoming serious as if something had occurred to him.

Fiona, understanding Darwin's thoughts, nodded gently. "Yes, luckily we saved her. Otherwise, who would have gone to save Chicago without hesitation this time?"

"We also need to thank Stella properly," Fiona continued, "The river was so turbulent yesterday, and she went in directly to pull Chicago out."

"Yes." Darwin nodded. "I will."

He had his own thoughts. He would carefully consider everything.

Jessie, initially happy to see Chicago, weakly wagged her tail. But after five minutes, Jessie grew annoyed by the crying, drooping her face and occasionally glancing at Fiona, wanting Fiona to help her.
