Chapter 1153
Fiona was beat from running around all day and the recent lovemaking, but she just couldn't sleep. Every time she shut her eyes, she saw that gnarly scar on Darwin's wrist.
Half-asleep, she instinctively put her hand on his wrist.
Darwin, who hadn't caught a wink the night before and had been hustling all day, found comfort in Fiona and zonked out hard.
He had some whack dreams.
When he woke up, it was already daylight, and Fiona was nowhere to be seen.
He checked the time; it was way past the time to get the kids to school.
Darwin jumped up, threw on some casual clothes, and headed downstairs.
Just as he reached the door, it swung open.
"You're up?" Fiona said, eyeing him. "I thought you'd sleep till noon."
Darwin felt a bit sheepish. "I slept like a log."
"You didn't sleep the night before, and yesterday you were out playing hero and diving into the lake for your phone. And last night..." Fiona raised an eyebrow and paused, then patted his waist. "No wonder you were so wiped."
Thinking about last night, Darwin reached out to hug Fiona.
She slapped his hand away. "Park it on the couch; I'll put some medicine on you."
Darwin's smile faded a bit, and he instinctively covered his wrist. "I already put some on last night. Isn't that enough?"
"It's necessary," Fiona said without looking back.
She brought over the first aid kit, and Darwin obediently sat down.
Fiona gently peeled off the waterproof bandage. The scar wasn't red anymore, but it still looked nasty.
"It looks like a twisted worm," Fiona said while sipping water.
Darwin's face twisted. "Don't say that."
He hated worms; they grossed him out.
Fiona snorted, carefully cleaned the scab, then slapped on a band-aid and a new waterproof bandage.
"Yesterday, folks from the Solomon Group couldn't find you, so they came to me. I handled what I could," Fiona paused, "Do you want to use your old phone?"
This wasn't the first time she asked him this.
Just like before, Darwin shook his head. "Nah, I'll just get a new SIM card and phone."
"Why don't you want to use the old phone?" Fiona was puzzled.
"It's full of stuff I don't recognize. I don't like it," Darwin said, lowering his eyelids. "But if you want me to, I can."
Fiona looked up and then slapped his thigh hard.
Darwin looked hurt.
"Come downstairs for breakfast. I bought a new phone and replaced the SIM card. After eating, take me to the park," Fiona said.
"Okay," Darwin nodded obediently.
They went downstairs together.
The new phone was the same model and color as the one Darwin had dropped in the river.
While munching on breakfast, he activated the new SIM card and saw a bunch of missed calls.
"Has Rex contacted you?" Fiona asked.
Darwin shook his head. "I guess everything's cool now."
"Why don't you call and check?" Fiona suggested.
