Chapter 636 Lachrymose But Robust
In the dormitory hall, Mike followed through with his plan, setting up a game of Texas Hold'em. Christopher seemed a bit distracted as they played.
Amidst the game, Mike remarked, "Miss Chelsea's great, especially with kids. She'd never mistreat your child."
But Mike's thoughts ran deeper, 'Miss Chelsea's the one needing help.
'What's got you so jittery?
'Your daughter's got a knack for mischief, leaving the royal family without a fuss.'
Christopher paused, munching on dried sweet potato. "I hadn't thought of that," he admitted. "But Mike, let's cut to it. I want your job, to work for Mr. Solomon and Fiona!"
Mike's hands hesitated, then he smirked. "Doubtful."
"Why's that? None of you can outplay me here!" Christopher exclaimed, then added hastily, "Unless you're pulling out a Taser! You lot play dirty!"
Mike wasn't pleased. "Even before Stuart got injured, he could handle you. We haven't told him your plans, but if we did, he could take you down."
"Stuart?" Christopher wasn't convinced.
Spotting someone outside, Mike gestured. "Stuart, to the veggie patch?"
"Sure." The gardener, Stuart, nodded, strolling away.
'Isn't Stuart in charge of exhibits?' Christopher wondered, falling silent. He suspected Mike's attempt to belittle him.
As Christopher mulled over the gardener's presence, a blur of yellow dashed out, heading straight for Stuart.
"Charlotte!"
"Stuart!"
Both parties exclaimed, rushing outside.
Stuart, taken aback, defended against a sudden attack from behind. While his strength had waned, his combat skills remained sharp. Despite being blindsided, he managed to hold his ground against the child assailant.
Charlotte, aware of her inferiority, respectfully withdrew. "Excuse me."
Bewildered, Stuart looked around, just as Mike and Christopher arrived with Charlotte. "Stuart, this is my daughter. She meant no harm!"
"Stuart, are you alright?" Mike asked anxiously.
Stuart nodded, then noticed his hand. Panic surged. "My seeds!"
Distraught, Stuart knelt, frantically salvaging his scattered seeds. "I finally got these!"
Mike reassured him, "Stuart, we'll help gather them!"
Others joined in, including bodyguards, to aid Stuart. Meanwhile, Christopher and Charlotte watched, bemused.
"Why'd you start a fight? I was trying to sway Fiona to let us stay!" Christopher chided Charlotte quietly.
"You wanted to persuade Fiona?" Charlotte frowned. "She seems tough to persuade."
"She's not swayed easily, and now you've caused a scene!" Christopher sighed.
Charlotte revealed, "But Fiona asked if I wanted to stay."
"Really?" Christopher was surprised.
Charlotte nodded. "Father, what's the times table?"
"Do you know Shakespeare's poems?"
Christopher fell silent.
Charlotte lamented, "Why didn't you teach me to write?"
Christopher's silence spoke volumes.
Fiona's unexpected acceptance of Charlotte's quirks and schooling aspirations tugged at Christopher's emotions. "My Charlotte's the smartest. We'll impress Fiona within a year!"
Meanwhile, Stuart's episode over the seeds had everyone reconsidering his abilities.
"Is your brother alright?" Christopher asked Mike earnestly.
Mike shrugged. "He just cries a lot!"
Confused, Christopher asked, "But Stuart can fight!"
Mike nodded. "He's got his moments."
As Christopher puzzled over Stuart's demeanor, Mike added, "He's just passionate about his work."
Charlotte and Christopher exchanged puzzled glances, struggling to grasp Stuart's complexity.
