Chapter 211 Bringing Him Home

The tears Fiona had been holding back finally broke free, rolling down into the cold palm of Mrs. Solomon's hand.

"Don't worry, I'll make sure to eat well from now on!" Fiona said through tears, maintaining her gentle smile.

Mrs. Solomon's breathing became labored as she nodded with difficulty, "Good... good..."

"Do you remember telling me about the black sand beach? I went there to see the stars. It was beautiful. There was even a meteor shower that night, but I forgot to make a wish."

Mrs. Solomon looked at her, her eyes filled with tenderness. For the past seven or eight years, she had been mostly confused.

But on the rare occasions she was lucid, she understood all too well how much her grandson had troubled this beautiful young woman.

"Fiona..." She breathed faintly, "I didn't raise Darwin right, and it caused you so much distress..."

Mrs. Solomon was gasping for air.

"Mrs. Solomon!" Fiona exclaimed in shock.

But Mrs. Solomon clung to the hand she held and spoke, "Forgive him, don't... don't leave him behind..."

"Okay, I promise you, I promise everything," Fiona quickly responded.

Darwin stood behind Fiona, his hands clenched into tight fists. Receiving her answer brought him some relief.

Mrs. Solomon's grip loosened, and she looked at the ceiling, her breathing growing more labored.

"Darwin!" she called out to Darwin again.

Darwin stepped forward, "Grandma, I'm here."

"Darwin, be good, be good."

Darwin's lips were tightly sealed, and he didn't speak.

But Mrs. Solomon seemed not to be waiting for his response. It was as though she was speaking to a child from long ago.

Soon, her breathing slowed down gradually.

"I'm sorry! I've come to find you... come to find..."

She couldn't finish her sentence.

The light in her eyes faded away completely.

Her trembling body stilled, and her eyes slowly closed.

"Mrs. Solomon!" Fiona called out to her.

There was no response.

Unable to hold back her emotions, she buried her face in her hands and cried.

Darwin watched Mrs. Solomon for a moment before turning away to call someone in. They came to prepare Mrs. Solomon's appearance and take her to the funeral home.

Around the same time, the Solomons and Solomon Enterprises published an obituary.

As one of the first entrepreneurs of Armie Country to campaign overseas and achieve a resounding victory, Mrs. Solomon quickly topped the trending searches.

In the Solomon family, everyone had their own grievances against Mrs. Solomon but to the outside world, she was a role model for many, especially women.

She had created a miracle for women in that era, inspiring countless aspiring females.

The trending topic online was filled with tributes to her.

The end of Grandma Solomon's life was not unexpected.

Darwin had received a call from the hospital two days earlier.

He had not gone to the office these past two days because he wanted to be with the elderly woman.

The plans for after she passed away had already been set.

The memorial service was scheduled for three days later, and following the service, her body was to be cremated.

It was nearly midnight when they left the funeral home.

"Mr. Solomon, my condolences."

Darwin looked at her.

Her eyes were swollen from crying.

"I appreciate your condolences,," Darwin said, his voice a bit hoarse.

Fiona frowned slightly.

When one is tired, instinctive behaviors can easily be triggered around familiar people.

Fiona stepped forward and placed the back of her hand against Darwin's forehead.

Darwin froze.

Not daring to move, for fear of disturbing Fiona.

"You're a bit feverish," Fiona said, pulling her hand back and looking at Darwin, then she paused.

What was she doing?

"I'm sorry, I have a habit with my family…" Fiona took a step back.

Strictly speaking, checking for fever like this was a habit I had with Charles and Chicago.

Darwin watched her, his Adam's apple bobbing twice.

"It's nothing," he shook his head, looking weak, "I was wondering why I felt so lightheaded, turns out I have a fever."

Fiona was puzzled by Darwin's attitude.

Had he accepted the fact that she wasn't really Fiona?

"Chelsea," Darwin looked up at her, still appearing frail, "I have a somewhat awkward request."

"Please go ahead, Mr. Solomon."

"I probably shouldn't drive in this condition. Could you give me a ride?" His tone and gaze were sincere.

Fiona couldn't find a reason to refuse.

"I'm sorry, I have another commitment. How about I call a taxi service for you?" Fiona suggested.

Darwin sighed softly, his weakness evident as he shook his head, "Never mind, I don't really want to see strangers right now. I'll take it easy driving back., thank you for today, Fiona."

With that, Darwin nodded slightly and walked towards his car.

"You can't drive like this." Fiona instinctively grabbed his hand.

But in a moment, she frowned and let go.

"It's okay, I'll go slowly…"

Fiona furrowed her brow deeply.

"I'll take you!" She sounded a bit impatient.

Darwin stood still, softly saying, "In that case, thank you."

Soon, Fiona was on the road driving.

However, Darwin was in the passenger seat.

Occasionally, she had gone to the company with Darwin.

When she drove, he would only sit in the back.

The only relief for her was that, once he got in the car, Darwin curled his tall frame and fell asleep, avoiding some unnecessary awkwardness.

It was Darwin's phone providing the navigation while driving.

Fiona hadn't paid much attention to the destination until a familiar neighborhood appeared half an hour later.

Was he going back to the company?

No…

Fiona's gaze returned to the navigation route.

"Make a right at the next intersection, that is the way to the destination," said the voice from the GPS.

Her expression darkened.

She didn't even need navigation for the rest of the route.

Soon, the car arrived at the garage.

Fiona shouldn't have been able to enter the garage directly, only registered vehicles could.

As soon as she arrived, the barrier lifted.

Before she could even react, the car glided into the underground garage.

It seemed that Darwin, using his status as a resident, had pre-registered her license plate.

Throughout the day, he had behaved impeccably, always addressing her as Chelsea and avoiding any peculiar remarks.

She found an empty spot and parked the car.

"Mr. Solomon," Fiona looked at Darwin.

Darwin slightly furrowed his brow, coming to his senses.

For a moment upon opening his eyes, he stared at Fiona, somewhat confused.

After a second or two, his gaze sharpened again.

"Sorry, I dozed off."

"It's okay, I followed your directions on the GPS, and suddenly we entered the garage... Did you authorize my car for entry?" Fiona cut straight to the point.
