Chapter 626 Haunting
When Christopher regained consciousness, he found himself unable to move. The dim control room was replaced by a grimy, deserted factory-like space.
A man crouched beside him, gripping his hair tightly, forcing Christopher's gaze upward. The pressure on Christopher's scalp was agonizing, courtesy of the bandaged man.
Half of the man's head wrapped in bandages amused Christopher.
"You resorted to a stun gun when you couldn't win, coward!" Christopher accused, despite Xavier's grip on his hair making it feel like his scalp was being torn off.
Xavier, unconcerned with his reputation in front of Christopher, exerted even more force.
"The 21st century allows for fights with high-tech gadgets," Xavier taunted before abruptly releasing Christopher, causing his head to collide with the ground.
Christopher glared at Xavier with murderous intent.
"Xavier, take a break," a voice interrupted.
Fiona strolled in, fresh from dinner with her child, nonchalant despite the situation.
Xavier's expression darkened at Fiona's entrance.
Seated opposite Christopher, Fiona exuded authority, her crossed legs accentuating her intimidating demeanor.
Xavier, considered the best in their line of work, had ambushed Christopher, taking the initiative despite Christopher's unawareness.
Christopher, though injured, displayed his skill by countering Xavier's moves.
"The ultimate betrayal is defying the employer," Christopher retorted coldly.
Fiona acknowledged Christopher's professional integrity with a smile.
Christopher remained silent, his eyes filled with defiance.
"Xavier, dispose of him at sea tonight," Fiona ordered casually, preparing to leave.
Christopher was taken aback by the blunt directive.
"Just feed me to the sharks without negotiation or bribery?" Christopher incredulously questioned.
"Dumb thief, easily subdued by my men," Fiona dismissed Christopher's worth disdainfully.
Christopher's anger flared at the insult. "I was the top assassin before retirement!" Christopher protested vehemently.
Xavier silenced Christopher with a kick, but the anger persisted.
"Even the top assassin can meet his end in the ocean," Fiona remarked coldly.
Christopher's shock was palpable as Fiona left, indifferent to his plight.
Realization dawned on Christopher as Fiona prepared to depart.
"It's Duke Simon!" he exclaimed desperately.
Fiona paused, intrigued by Christopher's revelation.
"Duke Simon?" Fiona echoed.
Christopher recounted his encounter with Simon, explaining his dire situation.
"Yes!" Christopher gritted his teeth and continued, "I retired, and started a new life with little Charlotte, everything was going well, but he found me and kidnapped little Charlotte. If I don't kill your child, he will kill mine!"
"What grudge does our young lady and young master have with him? Why would he go to such lengths?" Xavier asked, shocked. He thought the other party would, at most, disrupt the art exhibition or cause trouble for the adults. He never expected they were targeting the lives of the young lady and young master!
"Simon has gone mad," Christopher said in a low voice. "He said he would send a child down to accompany the child in his ex-wife's womb in death!"
Fiona's expression darkened at the mention of Simon's madness.
With Christopher's rage erupted as he defended his daughter and accused Simon.
Fiona dismissed Christopher's claims, questioning his credibility as an assassin.
Christopher's determination resurfaced as he offered to confront Simon.
Fiona remained skeptical but promised to investigate.
As Fiona left, Thalassa approached, seeking answers.
When the lights were found to be wrong yesterday, Thalassa was also present. Thalassa knew that someone had been caught by Xavier and hurried over.
"He said it was Simon," Fiona replied coldly.
Thalassa reacted for a moment. "Sounds familiar. Who is he? Do I know him?"
"Lilian's ex-husband."
Thalassa instantly felt his hair stand on end. "Who?"
With a grim face, Fiona walked briskly ahead, recounting, "Simon sent this person to kill Charles and Chicago, claiming he wanted to keep Lilian's child company!" Just the thought of those words made Fiona want to tear off Simon's head.
"What?" Thalassa was shocked. "Is Simon insane? That child is Lilian's unwanted child. It was killed by her own brother. What does it have to do with you guys?"
"Simon must have gone crazy," Fiona said in a low voice.
"So what do we do now?"
"I'll verify this matter first. If it's really Simon's doing, I don't care about his reasons, he won't get away with it."
"Alright!" Thalassa nodded vigorously. "We absolutely won't let this lunatic off easy!"
Thalassa was always the type who didn't argue with the dead about right or wrong.
When it came to Lilian, there was no room for debate. In life, she stirred up trouble, and even in death, her actions continued to pose a threat to the lives of the children.
At the same time, across the ocean, Simon cradled Lilian's ashes in his hands. His golden curls, neglected and unwashed for days, tangled together, adding to his disheveled appearance. The once charming blue eyes that once sparkled were now dull and lifeless as they fixated on a mobile phone lying on the ground.
Christopher was supposed to be the most powerful assassin. It was taking so long, though.
He couldn't even kill a child! If the child didn't die, he couldn't kill Darwin.
He had to carefully observe Darwin's pain after losing his loved ones before letting him die to satisfy his anger!
He didn't know how long he had been waiting like this.
The phone finally vibrated and Simon quickly pounced over.
Picking up the phone and seeing the message sent, the hope on his face disappeared rapidly.
