Chapter 1257

After hanging up with Hubert, Fiona felt a bit uneasy.

On the drive back, she replayed the details of when Darwin had shared his background with her.

Darwin had been pretty casual that day.

He only vaguely mentioned the timeline of when he found out about it.

Fiona hadn't thought much of it at the time.

But now, she thought, 'Knowing Darwin, he would have kept quiet after finding out.'

Fiona found that hard to believe.

Thinking about the diary, she felt restless the whole way and almost ran a red light.

She finally made it back to Emerald Pool without any mishaps.

After spending the entire afternoon in the vault, it was already completely dark.

Fiona parked the car, patted her cheeks to compose herself, and got in the elevator.

When she got to the living room, she put on a smile.

"Mom!" Chicago didn't know Fiona was coming back today.

When she saw Fiona, she screamed, didn't even put on her shoes, and ran to her, jumping into her arms. "Why didn't you tell me you were coming back? I missed you so much I couldn't even eat dinner!"

"Really? Let me see, did you get skinnier from hunger?" Fiona held Chicago's cheeks and looked closely. "Your face does look a bit smaller!"

"Really?" Chicago was surprised.

At that moment, Charles walked over from the living room.

Fiona took a couple of steps forward, hugged him, and kissed him on the cheek. "How have you been these past few days?"

Charles nodded.

Chicago asked, "Mom, where's Dad? Did he go upstairs?"

Fiona's expression didn't change as she pulled Chicago closer. "There's something I need to tell you."

"What is it?" Chicago immediately got nervous. "What happened to Dad?"

"He's fine," Fiona replied, "Last time, he came back seriously injured, and many parts of his body haven't healed yet, especially his leg and the lost memories."

"Yeah." Chicago nodded seriously, still looking worried.

"So this time, I found the best doctor and took your dad to Cyberia. Remember? You went there before to see an art exhibition." Fiona touched Chicago's cheek. "He'll need to stay in Cyberia for treatment for the next few months."

"Can I call him?" Chicago pouted, tears streaming down her face.

Fiona gently hugged her and patted her back. "Of course you can, but only if the doctor agrees. Your dad needs a very quiet environment to get better quickly."

"Mom, you're lying!" Chicago suddenly started crying loudly.

Then, she looked at Charles, who had a serious expression.

"Charles, is Mom lying?" she cried and asked, "Last time, she said Dad was on a business trip, but it wasn't true."

Charles stepped forward, hugged Chicago, and clumsily patted her back. "Mom isn't lying. Dad talked to me about this."

"Why didn't you tell me?" Chicago cried and asked.

"You're Dad's most beloved baby. He can't stand to see you cry," Charles said softly, "If you cry, he definitely won't want to go for treatment. But his body hasn't recovered. You don't want Dad to always forget how you met, do you?"

Chicago shook her head while sobbing.
