Chapter 1249
Hubert was a bit taken aback.
But he quickly flashed a gentle smile. "Alright, I'll be here at nine tomorrow morning. Make sure you get some good rest tonight."
Darwin didn't look at Hubert or say a word.
He picked up Fiona's letter again, giving it a thorough read.
Hubert left the research institute and spotted Fiona's car parked across the street.
After a moment's thought, he walked over.
He tapped lightly on the car window.
A moment later, the door opened, and Fiona stepped out.
Her eyes were red, clearly from crying.
Fiona must have seen the interaction between Darwin and him through the app.
"Tomorrow we start the formal treatment," Hubert said softly, "If you're comfortable with it, you can stay in the monitoring room and watch."
Fiona coughed lightly.
She shook her head. "I've got a ton of things waiting for me back home. If I don't go back, Charles and Chicago will start making a fuss."
"Don't worry, I'll take good care of him," Hubert assured Fiona with gentle yet firm words.
"Hubert." Fiona looked up, her beautiful eyes calm. "Mr. Graham's Psychological Research Institute isn't just your hard work; it's your father's too."
"Yeah." Hubert nodded.
"I'll also play the role of a difficult family member sometimes," Fiona said with a self-deprecating tone, "I won't tell you when I'm coming, so the next time I show up, if Darwin has any issues..."
Fiona trailed off.
But Hubert got the message.
He smiled helplessly and nodded. "Got it."
Fiona glanced at the building in the fading light.
She clenched her fists tightly, then resolutely turned around, got in the car, and drove away.
Hubert stood there.
Back when Marisole was with Aiden for treatment, her own mental state had some issues, and Hubert had read the treatment files.
He suddenly wondered, 'If Marisole had been as strong as Fiona, would things have turned out differently for Aiden and Marisole?'
A cold wind blew, sweeping up the fallen leaves.
For years, Rose had been taking care of his daily needs.
Now that she was gone, he didn't even know how thick his clothes should be.
Clearly, he was dressed too lightly today.
Hubert lived nearby and usually commuted by bike.
Today was no different.
Braving the cold wind, Hubert's figure disappeared at the end of the road.
Fiona returned to the hotel.
She took a shower, packed her luggage, and headed to the airport with Burl and a few others.
Even though Fiona no longer doubted Hubert, she still had a dozen people stationed near the research institute.
If she saw anything suspicious on the monitors or if the surveillance inexplicably failed, these people could rush in immediately.
Before the plane took off, Fiona glanced out the window.
She felt a heavy weight pressing on her chest.
During the long flight, Fiona slept on and off.
Every time she fell into a deep sleep, she would dream.
Strangely, on this journey, she only dreamed of Aiden or Marisole.
The last time she slept deeply until the plane landed and was woken up by Burl.
"Fiona, your forehead is a bit hot, you have a fever!" Burl said with a furrowed brow.
