Chapter 1237
At first glance, Hubert's research institute didn't look like a hospital at all.
The whole place had this super chill vibe, with simple Cyberian lines, vintage lighting fixtures, and soft lighting everywhere.
The best part? The building was filled with indoor greenery, not just outside.
When people walked in, the decor, the plants, and the soothing music made them relax without even trying.
Hubert led Darwin inside, casually asking him about his rest and how he'd been feeling the past few days as they walked.
"The past couple of days, my wife and kids and I went camping. Maybe it was the beautiful scenery, but my mood and spirits have improved a lot," Darwin said honestly, glancing at Fiona as he spoke.
Fiona seemed lost in thought.
Darwin squeezed her hand.
Fiona snapped back to reality and looked at him.
"What's wrong?" she asked.
"You don't look so good. Are you hungry?" Darwin asked softly.
Fiona shook her head. "Let's follow Mr. Graham first."
Seeing Fiona like this, Darwin felt a bit uneasy.
But he still followed along.
After walking through a long corridor, the view opened up to a more modern building.
"Is this a ward area?" Darwin asked Hubert, confused. "What are we doing here?"
"My office is on the second floor," Hubert pointed out.
Thinking about Fiona's expression and the weird vibes she'd been giving off lately, Darwin suddenly felt a warning in his gut as he looked at the building.
A voice that hadn't popped up in days, wrapped in stifling humidity, echoed in his ears again, "Don't you still know what this place is? Darwin, Fiona has abandoned you. You're too dangerous for her, so she doesn't want you anymore. From now on, this place will be your prison and grave!"
"Honey!" Darwin gripped Fiona's hand tightly and suddenly stopped walking.
"What's wrong?" Fiona looked at him.
"I forgot something at the hotel. Let's go back and get it," Darwin said, pulling Fiona's hand and trying to turn back.
Burl blocked his way.
"Burl! Move!" Darwin said in a low, stern voice.
Burl didn't budge.
Not only did Burl not move, but Christopher and Mike also stepped forward, silently watching Darwin.
Darwin stood there, frozen.
He could feel the warmth in Fiona's hand slowly fading away.
Darwin looked sideways at the silent Fiona. "Honey, I don't like it here. Take me home."
Fiona knew Darwin had figured it out.
She looked up, her eyes, usually so bright, now seemed misty. She looked at Darwin and gently shook her head. "You can't go home for now."
"Why?" Darwin asked.
The voices in his ears grew louder. "Fool, why else? Have you forgotten? That night you almost killed Fiona. She doesn't love you anymore, she's even afraid of you, so she brought you here."
