Chapter 1133

"Darwin, you're ridiculous!" Fiona snapped, clearly furious.

She turned to leave, but Darwin grabbed her arm. "I exactly sent him away to keep him from posing any potential danger around Chicago, but isn't that better for him to the best school?"

Fiona glared. "But Ethan doesn't want to go! It doesn't matter how great the school is!"

"He's just a kid," Darwin argued.

"Exactly, he's just a kid," Fiona said, disappointed. "I thought losing your memory would change those obsessive habits. I was wrong."

"I'm not falling back. This is different!" Darwin insisted, sounding desperate.

Fiona's expression softened but stayed conflicted. "You always have an excuse," she said, frowning. "By the way, there's something else I need to ask you."

Darwin tightened his grip, eyes locked on hers.

"The Gray family is dead. Did you know that?" Fiona asked.

Darwin's eyes darkened, and he nodded. "I know."

"Did you have anything to do with it?" Fiona pressed.

Darwin stayed silent.

"Why cancel the surveillance? Why make such a big, loud announcement?" Fiona demanded.

The news of the Gray family's death spread quickly. Mike had gathered some details: it happened two days ago at noon. The people monitoring the Gray family were eating at the town's busiest restaurant, laughing and chatting. They announced they were leaving, and that night, the Gray family was killed.

"They deserve it!" Darwin said, looking at Fiona. "If Cyrus hadn't taken me, you would have found me, brought me home for treatment, and I wouldn't have been separated from you! They lied to me, Gray poisoned me, and Aura almost dragged me to die with her in front of you! Why should I let them go?"

Fiona felt a wave of powerlessness. "You could have just told me."

"I don't want these evils have any further connection with you, nor do I want to fight with you over them," Darwin said, calming down. "Honey, don't worry. I'll take good care of Ethan. When he wants to come back for holidays to see his friends and parents, I'll bring him back."

"Darwin, you can't force anyone to do something against their will," Fiona said seriously. "I really hate that kind of behavior."

Darwin stunned.

Fiona pulled free from his grip. "I'm going to sleep in Chicago's room. Think about what you've done."

She turned and headed downstairs, the stairway lights dim. After a few steps, she felt weak and shaky. She had thought she could let go of the past and spend her life with Darwin. But when similar things happened again, the pain and hatred of the past resurfaced uncontrollably.

He had changed, become considerate and gentle, so different from before. Why was he acting like this now? Was his previous kindness just an act, hiding his true nature from her?
