Chapter 1155

Everyone suddenly ditched the murder talk and started griping about how tough life was for young folks these days.

One guy was like, "Man, these big shots are ruthless. Look at the Solomon Group. They rake in the dough but pay their workers peanuts!"

Darwin and Fiona were caught off guard by the sudden topic switch.

Another dude jumped in, "You know anyone at Solomon Group? They pay pretty well. My kid's a junior researcher there, and with bonuses, he pulls in about $70k a year. Not too shabby!"

"$70k? You kidding me? Did you see the news? The CEO's kid, barely out of diapers, is called a genius engineer and supposedly makes millions! Your kid's $70k is chump change compared to that!"

"Man, you're just salty 'cause you're not rolling in it!"

The two old-timers bickered and then split to different tables.

Geniuses were a rare breed; not everyone could handle their existence in this world.

Fiona didn't get mad. She actually found their spat kinda funny.

"We should think about boosting employee perks," Fiona whispered.

Darwin felt a bit uneasy at first but chilled out seeing Fiona enjoying the convo.

Darwin replied, "Okay."

The restaurant buzzed with different topics but eventually circled back to the original one.

"Honestly, with what went down at the park, everyone should keep an eye on their kids," a lady said seriously. "If some nutjob hurts a kid, he wouldn't be held accountable, and we'd just have to suck it up!"

"Yeah, it's a big deal!"

"I'll remind my kid when I pick her up from school later!"

Fiona went to settle the bill. The owner, a sweet lady in her fifties or sixties, greeted her warmly, "First time here?"

"Yeah," Fiona nodded.

"Did you enjoy the food? Are you full? If not, we can whip up another dish on the house," the owner offered.

"We loved it," Fiona said, whispering, "My husband's super picky, but he ate a ton today."

The owner glanced at Darwin, then smiled at Fiona. "You two look great together. If you have kids, they'll be adorable!"

Fiona smiled and paid the bill.

The owner added, "Here on a trip? Be careful if you go to the park down the road. Something happened there recently, and it's not safe."

"Is it the incident everyone was talking about earlier?" Fiona asked.

"Yeah, it happened at noon. The cleaner found the men's restroom covered in blood. It was freaky!"

Fiona nodded. As she and Darwin walked out, she said, "Is that kid's home in Bay City nearby? If he comes around here often, you should tell him to steer clear for now."

Fiona held Darwin's arm. Darwin nodded. "Maybe he'll stay at his own place for a bit."

After they walked a bit further, the owner finally looked away. "So handsome, but such a shame he's a cripple!"

A customer came to pay the bill. "A cripple? Another one?"

"What do you mean another one?" the owner asked, confused.

"Isn't it about the park incident? Most of the cameras were busted, but someone saw a weird cripple around when it happened."

"That's creepy. Hope they catch the guy soon, or everyone's gonna be on edge."
