Chapter 482 I Don't Want a Penny
"Who else is there?" Calvin demanded somberly.
"I have a twin," Steven replied with a smile. "Let me go now, and I'll bring them to you."
"Just tell us where they are, we'll send someone."
Steven felt he had regained a bargaining chip.
Leaning back on the hospital bed, he shook his head. "They'll only come if I go."
Calvin looked at Fiona.
"Book a flight," Fiona ordered Steven curtly.
"Yes!"
"Ms. Fiona, you don't need to look at me like that. I might have been a bastard, but I wouldn't joke about this." Steven chuckled. "And as for the money, I won't ask you for more, just the fifty million we agreed upon. Though, you ought to give a little in advance."
"As long as it's confirmed that these two people exist, you'll get your money," Fiona said, ending with a chilling smile. "But if you dare to deceive me, don't expect to live a good life for the rest of your days."
Before leaving the hospital, Steven got his cell phone back. He made a secretive call, but the conversation was brief.
Steven's voice rang out in shock, "What? He ran away?"
Fiona glanced at him.
Steven immediately lowered his voice and muttered a few more words before hanging up the phone.
"What's wrong? Don't tell me the person I need has taken off," Fiona said.
Steven, with a grin that begged for forgiveness, said, "It's just Charles being rebellious, you know, the whole teenage runaway thing!"
Fiona looked at him with ice in her gaze.
Steven wiped the sweat from his forehead and reassured her, "No worries, I can track him down once I'm back, definitely."
In the midst of their conversation,
The attending physician rushed over in a flurry.
"Ms. Fiona, great news!"
"Is it possible that there was an error in my medical report? Could my marrow actually be a match?" Steven interjected with eagerness.
He considered using his own marrow ideal, as it would evade any scrutiny while still reaping significant benefits.
Otherwise, whether he used the bone marrow of that brat or the deceased girl, there could be complications if others found out about his windfall.
"Just confirmed, another volunteer's marrow successfully matches your son's!" The doctor's face lit up with excitement, an event he had never witnessed before.
Previously after extensive searching, no compatible donor was found.
And now, two in a row.
"How can this be?" Steven's dreams of wealth shattered, and he panicked, "Outsiders can never match what your own family provides. Let's find my son or daughter instead!"
"Stay away from Ms. Fiona!" Calvin shoved Steven aside furiously.
Fiona ignored Steven entirely and asked, "Have you reached out to the volunteer?"
"The volunteer is actually just outside the hospital. I've already sent someone to pick him up," the lead doctor said, visibly thrilled.
Fiona's emotions had been on a rollercoaster ride all day.
"Cousin…" Steven began in a state of agitation.
"If you call me 'cousin' one more time, I'll have your teeth stripped from your mouth," Fiona warned Steven with a stern look.
Steven quickly covered his mouth.
Just then, the staff member who had gone to fetch the volunteer arrived with him in the car.
Fiona hurriedly approached leaving Steven behind.
Steven clenched his teeth in frustration, his gaze dripping with resentment at the car.
He thought he should've taken the little bastard with him when he left the house; now millions were slipping through his fingers.
As he was stewing in his own thoughts, a teenage boy in a ragged white T-shirt and floral shorts, wearing flip-flops and with tanned skin, stepped down from the car.
"Daren!" Steven exclaimed aloud.
The boy looked toward him; his eyes filled with disdain.
"It's you?" Fiona recognized the youth in front of her.
He was the same boy who had been lingering outside her studio the day before.
"Brother..." Steven's voice trailed off as he suddenly remembered Fiona's warning. He quickly corrected himself, "Ms. Fiona, this is my son, Daren!"
"I'm not his son," Daren said with a look of disgust on his face.
Fiona's gaze swept between the two.
"I'll take you for a routine check-up first," she said to Daren.
He must have been looking for her when he showed up outside her studio yesterday.
"Okay."
Daren was silent.
He bore no resemblance to Steven.
"Daren, you!" Steven exploded when Daren ignored him, cursing, "All for money? You don’t even want your own father? "Just as I'd anticipate from the offspring of a mistress," Steven muttered under his breath.
Steven was perplexed. He couldn't fathom why Darwin was in Bay City or why the sudden marrow match was successful.
However, he was convinced that if Darwin had come seeking a match, it must be for financial gain.
Daren acted as if he hadn’t heard the curses, following the doctor without a word.
"Stop his barking, it's giving me a headache," Fiona said, frowning as she followed the doctor inside.
Steven was about to follow as well, still ranting, "I'm his father, you can't give the money to him, you have to give it to me! Otherwise, I'll make a scene that everyone will know about!"
Calvin just shook his head.
Then, with one swift move, he slapped Steven across the face.
Steven, hand on his cheek, seemed stunned by the hit.
"I dare you to bark again, I'll feed you to the sharks," Calvin said menacingly, emphasizing every word.
Although he wasn’t sure what Steven was really after.
Finally, he didn't have to put up with Steven any longer.
Steven, a classic bully and a coward, held his cheek, seething yet silent.
All he could think about was hoping that some untreatable condition would be found in the defiant boy so he couldn’t donate.
Then, karma would hit Darwin and his wife.
And their Charles would perish.
However, Steven's wishes didn't come true.
After all the tests, Daren was found healthy and a perfect donor match.
Fiona, after reviewing the report, could finally breathe easy.
She looked up at the young man standing before her.
His eyes downcast, his clothes shabby, yet there was an undeniable air of defiance about him.
Not at all like Steven.
"Did you try to see me yesterday?" Fiona asked gently.
"The security wouldn't let me in," Daren replied. "Is my bone marrow suitable?"
"It is." Fiona handed him the report.
He didn't take it. "I'll donate my marrow to your Charles, but I have conditions."
"Let's hear them," Fiona anticipated this. "What do you want me to do?"
Fiona had a hunch that Daren wasn't here for money.
"Save my sister." Daren locked eyes with Fiona, speaking with unwavering conviction. As his words fell, his eyes reddened.
Fiona frowned. "What's happened to your sister?"
"Steven sold her!" Daren's fists clenched; his voice choked with emotion. " That man is the local big shot back home. Steven owed him eighty grand, and in exchange, he took my sister. They said they're going to sell her overseas. Madam, I know you've got influence. I don't need money; please, just save my sister!"
