Chapter 1202
With some help from the park security guards, Christopher managed to drag the unconscious Darwin to the shore.
"I'll kill him!" Burl shouted, grabbing a rock and ready to charge.
But before he could move, Fiona stumbled past him.
"Fiona?" Burl was stunned.
Darwin had tried to kill her, yet she still cared about him?
"Darwin!" Fiona cried out, checking his breathing and vital signs.
Tears streaming down her face, she started CPR and mouth-to-mouth.
Burl was furious and wanted to pull her away.
Mike held him back. He knew what had happened.
"What are you doing?" Burl glared at Mike.
"Calm down, Burl. It's not that simple," Mike said seriously.
"He tried to kill Fiona! If I hadn't followed, if she was alone..." Burl squatted, holding his head, distraught.
Fiona had faced danger many times before. But Burl's fear had never felt as real as it did this time.
Darwin coughed up water and slowly woke up, confused and soaking wet, seeing Fiona crying.
At the same time, many similar scenes from years ago flashed through his mind. Back then, she was smiling at him under the dim light, but now she was crying.
"Honey," he started, but Fiona hugged him, sobbing.
Darwin stiffened, looking at Christopher, who avoided his gaze.
He couldn't remember much after dinner, but he knew he was in trouble seeing Fiona like this.
"Darwin, why did you try to kill Fiona?" Burl broke free from Mike, ready to pounce.
Darwin was shocked.
"What are you talking about?" His expression turned cold.
"Burl, go home," Fiona said, her eyes red. "I'll explain later. Just go home."
"I can't leave you with him! I'm not going back!" Burl rarely disobeyed her.
"Please..." Fiona looked at Burl, her eyes full of pleading.
Burl had never seen her like this. Panicking, he said, "Alright, I'll go home. Don't cry. I'm going now!"
Fiona closed her eyes, stroking Darwin's neck in pain.
"Burl, Christopher and I will stay with Fiona. Nothing will happen," Mike reassured him.
Burl reluctantly left, glancing back at Fiona.
"What happened?" Darwin was panicked. "Did I do something?"
His nerves tightened. "He was here, wasn't he? Did he hurt you? Let me see."
"It's okay," Fiona hugged him tighter. "Don't be afraid. Let's go to the hospital. You nearly drowned."
Her heart felt shattered.
"No, let me see where you're hurt," Darwin insisted, noticing a bruise on Fiona's neck.
