Chapter 1399
"No..." Hubert yelled, his voice shaking with fear.
He turned to Fiona, his eyes begging for mercy.
"I keep my promises," Fiona said, cool as a cucumber. "She'll live, and she'll live a long life."
Hubert's face changed as if he just figured something out.
"Hubert, you lied to me! You betrayed me!" Rose shrieked like a banshee, hurling curses at him. "No wonder your parents died in that car crash on your birthday. Having a son like you was their curse. Their death was their punishment! You won't have a noble end either."
There's a saying, right? The one who knows you best can hurt you the most.
Rose knew exactly where to hit Hubert where it hurt.
His parents had died in a car accident, rushing back to celebrate his birthday.
For the longest time, Rose had comforted him, saying, "It was just an accident; it wasn't your fault."
But now, she was using that very incident to stab him in the heart.
Hubert looked at Rose, words of pleading stuck in his throat.
Rose sneered, "My mom was right. Why do other people's parents live, but yours died?"
After that, Hubert's face went blank, and the desperation in his eyes disappeared.
He gave Fiona a slight nod and said, "It's done. I've got a ton of work waiting for me at the lab, so I'm out."
"Take her with you. I trust you'll handle it well," Fiona said, gesturing towards Leto.
Leto, looking scared out of his mind, cried, "Hubert, she tricked me!"
"Let's go," Hubert said, not sparing another glance at Rose.
Leto, feeling like he just dodged a bullet, quickly followed Hubert out.
Seeing them leave, Rose freaked out again. "Hubert, stop! Aren't you taking me with you? Are you leaving me with them?" she screamed.
But Hubert didn't look back.
"Hubert! Hubert! You promised my mom you'd take care of me!" Rose wailed.
But she didn't realize that the moment she used his parents' death to hurt him, she lost him as her brother.
Christopher asked, "Mrs. Solomon, she's too noisy. Should I take her now?"
Fiona nodded. "Okay."
She was crouched in front of Charlotte, wiping the hand that had just broken Rose's finger bones.
Charlotte was like a little angel in front of Fiona.
Her eyes sparkled as she looked at Fiona.
"Fiona, where are you taking me?" Rose asked, her voice trembling. "Are you going to torture me? That's illegal! Darwin is fine, I only planned it but didn't succeed. You can't do anything to me!"
"You're sick; haven't you noticed?" Fiona said, touching Charlotte's delicate cheek, then looking at Rose. She made a circling motion near her head with her finger. "Mental illness."
Rose's eyes went wide, and she shook her head frantically. "I'm not!"
"If you're not, why would you do something so crazy?" Fiona stood up and continued, "If you're sick, you need treatment. I get that you have a mental illness, so I won't do anything to you. I'll just kindly send you to a psychiatric hospital for treatment."
Rose felt like she'd been struck by lightning.
She'd been to many psychiatric hospitals with Hubert.
She knew how terrifying those places were.
Fiona said she wouldn't do anything to Rose, but she'd definitely pick the worst psychiatric hospital for her.
"No! I don't want to go!" Rose screamed, terrified. "I was wrong! Fiona, I know I was wrong! Darwin is fine, isn't he? Let me go! I'll leave Armie and never show my face again! Just this once, spare me! Please!"
"You didn't succeed because I found out in time!" Fiona's voice was cold as ice. "What if I hadn't found out?"
