Chapter 1131
Ashton's words hit Fiona hard.
She'd never thought about it that way.
Darwin was still dealing with amnesia but seemed to be getting along fine with Ethan lately.
Back in North Alabama, they used to hang out all day.
Ashton even joked that Darwin should groom Ethan to be Chicago's future son-in-law, so they wouldn't have to worry about Chicago marrying someone else.
Darwin had even seemed to consider it seriously.
"I was just kidding, don't take it to heart. The current Mr. Solomon is different. He wouldn't do that," Ashton quickly added when she saw Fiona's face change.
"Got it," Fiona replied.
Worried Fiona might overthink, Ashton picked up the chubby Melissa. "Look, hasn't Melissa grown since you left?"
Melissa didn't understand but kept laughing, her big eyes squinting from giggling.
Fiona laughed too. "I wish time would fly so you guys can come back to Bay City. I want to hold Melissa too."
"It'll be soon!" Ashton nodded eagerly.
The video call ended when Melissa got tired and fell asleep.
During the call, Ashton and Fiona didn't bring up Ethan again.
After that, Ashton sighed in relief and looked at Kenny, who was reviewing a contract. "Kenny, did I almost mess things up?"
"Not really," Kenny said, capping his pen and sitting beside her. "With how well you know Fiona, if she starts to suspect something, do you think she won't find out the truth?"
Ashton's face scrunched up. "You mean Darwin really sent Ethan away? No way."
"Isn't sending him away a good thing?" Kenny asked. "He achieved a social leap many can't in a lifetime."
"It's not that it's bad," Ashton pondered. "But if Ethan didn't want to go and was forced, what do you surmise was the reason?"
"Coercion," Kenny answered.
"Exactly, that changes everything," Ashton said. "I hope it wasn't Darwin!"
Kenny found Ashton's worried expression adorable.
He pulled her into his arms and kissed her passionately.
Ashton was caught off guard. "What's going on?"
"Nothing," Kenny replied with a smile.
Ashton fell silent.
If Darwin did something wrong, it fine for him to face Fiona's anger.
Ever since he came back with amnesia, Fiona had almost spoiled him.
Maybe it was time for him to learn a lesson.
As for Ethan, he was still young; maybe this incident would be a turning point.
When he grew up and looked back, he might not resent Darwin's coercion.
Compared to Ashton's wild thoughts, Fiona was much more straightforward.
After hanging up with Ashton, she called Randy directly.
Randy had just gotten off work.
Seeing Fiona's call, he picked up immediately.
