Chapter 1298

A bunch of people were just waiting for Evander to mess up.

"Uncle Lucian, you've been against my family for a while now, so why do you care so much about my mom? Could it be..." Wyatt, always the troublemaker, smirked and raised an eyebrow. "Could it be you had a thing for my mom, and since you couldn't have her, you turned all jealous and went after my dad?"

Lucian, no matter how good he was at keeping his cool, couldn't hide his reaction to that.

He shot up from his seat, "Wyatt, what the hell are you talking about! I'm just a friend who heard your mom was sick and wanted to check in!"

"Why so worked up? My mom was a knockout back in the day. It's not a crime if Uncle Lucian had a crush on her." Wyatt kept that mischievous grin on his face.

Lucian turned bright red.

He glanced around the conference room, seeing all the curious and mocking eyes on him, which only made him angrier.

Fiona leaned back in her chair, playing with a ring on her finger, a smile tugging at her lips.

Lucian had thought that after the whole Stella incident, the old Wyatt was gone. Clearly, he was wrong.

Annoying things don't just disappear.

In the Durham Group, besides the rumor that Lucian was Larry's illegitimate son, there was another juicy bit.

Lucian was only a year younger than Gideon, but it wasn't until Wyatt was about fourteen or fifteen that Lucian, under Larry's orders, married the granddaughter of some textile industry big shot.

Word was, Lucian was forced into the marriage.

The night before the wedding, he got wasted and called out Evander's name.

Wyatt might be a troublemaker, but he wouldn't just make stuff up in a setting like this.

Wyatt only figured out Lucian's feelings for Evander when he got older.

Whenever Evander was around, Lucian's eyes never left him. That kind of obsession made Wyatt sick.

Today, Lucian tried to use Evander's illness to get under Wyatt's skin. So, of course, Wyatt wasn't going to hold back.

Lucian pointed at Wyatt, his hand shaking like crazy.

"Alright, I'll stop. Uncle Lucian doesn't have any designs on my mom. Such low behavior isn't your style. Sit down, don't get mad." Wyatt said, making Lucian even more furious.

Lucian gritted his teeth, barely holding back the urge to explode, clenched his fists, and slowly sat down.

"Wyatt, you should think about your mom's reputation when you talk! For a grown man like me, this is no big deal..." Lucian said.

"My mom's fine, she's just been targeted by some sneaky, despicable people, messing with her reputation, right?" Wyatt cut him off. "What era are we in now? Why are we still blaming women? Uncle Lucian, you need to get with the times."

Rose stood behind Fiona, feeling like she'd been mocked.

Fiona had a smile on her face, clearly enjoying the drama.

Lucian didn't manage to rile up Wyatt. Instead, he just made things worse for himself, so mad he forgot to keep up his nice-guy act. He turned away, refusing to look at Wyatt or say another word.

Wyatt looked at Fiona and shrugged, helplessly.
