Chapter 831 Untimely Fatherly Love
Fiona looked at Stella with a gentle smile. "Do you trust me that much? Then I must take good care of you and ensure your wedding is perfect," Fiona teased.
Stella nodded with a smile, then glanced at herself in the mirror. The person in the mirror had exquisite makeup and a bright smile. Stella herself felt somewhat unrecognizable. When had she stopped crying alone late at night? And when did she always wear such a bright and relaxed smile on her face?
Of course, it was after Stella and Alexander confirmed their relationship.
The wedding was to be held in a church, followed by a reception in the banquet hall next door. Just before heading to the church, someone knocked on the door of the dressing room. Fiona got up to open the door.
Outside the door stood Adam and his son, and when they saw Fiona, all three of them were momentarily stunned.
"Mrs. Solomon!" Frederick exclaimed in surprise.
Fiona nodded lightly, and at that moment, Stella stood up and walked out. When she saw Adam, her smile stiffened for a moment, then she called out, "Dad."
It had been a long time since Adam last saw Stella. Stella's features resembled her mother's more and more. Although things had ended badly between Adam and Stella’s mother, and even now, Adam regarded the woman as a scandal, he still believed he genuinely loved her back then. Except for the status of a wife, he thought he had given her everything. Unfortunately, that woman didn't know how to appreciate it. She had no sense of proportion or self-awareness, actually saying she couldn't accept being a mistress. Adam always felt that being his mistress was far better than marrying an ordinary, mediocre man.
"You look more like your mother," Adam said to Stella, looking at her with a nostalgic expression. Stella's smile froze for a moment. Her mother probably died around her age. "Thank you for coming to my wedding," Stella said politely, her tone distant.
Seeing this, Frederick couldn't help but say something unpleasant, "Didn’t you know we were here? You haven’t made any effort to see us these past few days."
Fiona, with a smile on her face, interrupted, "Don't you know why she didn't see you? How can you have the nerve to ask?"
Frederick's mocking expression immediately froze. He looked at Fiona, wishing he could retort, but he couldn't afford to offend her.
"Mom, Aunt Stella!" At that moment, the flower girl, Chicago, and the bridesmaids came to take Stella to the church.
"Let's go, it's time to go to the church," Fiona said to Stella, adopting a gentle tone.
Henry spoke up, "Dad, you should walk her down the aisle and hand her over to the groom."
Henry was smarter than his younger brother. He knew he would have to curry favor with his sister and her husband in the future, so he put away his disdain and became attentive.
"Is there such a part in the ceremony?" Fiona asked, looking puzzled.
Stella glanced at Adam and shook her head, "No, there isn’t." She had hesitated as well. Adam had already denied that she was his daughter, and Stella felt her mother wouldn't approve of it either.
"Stella, I am your father!" Adam suddenly felt his authority being trampled upon.
Fiona placed her hand on Stella's lower back and gently pushed her forward. "You go ahead, leave this to me," Fiona said reassuringly.
Stella looked worriedly at Fiona, who gave her a reassuring look. Fiona then turned to Chicago and said, "Chicago, I’m entrusting Aunt Stella to you!"
"Okay! I'll hand Stella over to Alexander!" Chicago promised, patting her chest.
Stella looked at her adorable gesture and her smile returned to her face. She then nodded slightly at Adam and followed the bridesmaids and Chicago.
"Stella..." Adam was filled with suppressed anger. Knowing the bride’s father was present but being denied the chance to walk her down the aisle would make him a laughingstock.
"Mr. White," Fiona's voice, neither warm nor cold, interrupted Adam, "On this occasion today, you shouldn't worry too much about your own face. After all, for over a decade, as Stella's father, you haven't taken care of her or protected her. It's not quite appropriate to play the father now."
Adam's face tightened. "Mrs. Solomon, our family matters..."
"I'm sorry, even if it's your family matter, I will intervene this time," Fiona said, looking at Adam. "I promised Stella to ensure the perfection of her wedding, and if anyone tries to ruin that... I don't care about their status."
"Dad!" Henry quickly pulled Adam aside. "Since my sister hasn't arranged it, let's forget it and go directly to the church to watch."
Adam composed himself. He didn't say a word, turned around with a dark face, and walked away. Henry then smiled apologetically at Fiona, "Mrs. Solomon, please don't take my father's attitude to heart. He's getting old and... you know."
Fiona forced a smile and watched as the two sons of the White family followed Adam.
Fiona didn't delay either. She quickly headed to the church. She was assigned a seat in the second row for the ceremony. The first row was reserved for Alexander's elders. Darwin was there with his son, Charles, waiting. When they saw Fiona, both father and son looked at her. Fiona immediately smiled cutely and sat between the father and son. Darwin and Charles each held one of her hands.
Adam, being Stella's father, was also seated in the second row, separated by an aisle from Fiona's row. After the earlier confrontation, the expressions of the father and sons were not too good.
"Where's Rebecca?" Frederick checked the time. "She disappeared after coming over here."
"Call her!" Adam said sternly. None of his children made things easy for him.
Frederick made two calls, but both went unanswered. As he was about to make a third call, the priest appeared, solemn and dignified. The ceremony officially began.
Alexander stood at the altar in a crisp suit, his hair neatly styled. He looked more serious than usual, visibly nervous as he gazed towards the entrance. The intricately patterned doors were pushed open, and the bride, in a pure white wedding gown, appeared before everyone. Alexander's eyes lit up instantly as the bride approached step by step. His lips curved into a full smile, but his eyes were visibly red. This moment had appeared many times in his dreams, was finally here. But in most of those dreams, he couldn't clearly see Stella's face.
