Chapter 756 Darwin's Stand-In?
The next day, Fiona had to leave early for work, so she was the first to wake up.
As she stirred, Darwin, who had been sleeping beside her, also woke. Since their reunion, Darwin had been like Fiona's shadow, following her every move. They had been inseparable. The thought of being apart for an entire day made Darwin anxious.
While Fiona was brushing her teeth, Darwin hugged her from behind, resting his chin on her shoulder. "What time will you be off? Can I call you? What if Charles and Chicago have a disagreement?"
Fiona turned around, leaning against the sink, and looked at Darwin. "Darwin, you'll miss me, won't you?"
Darwin looked at Fiona with a hint of sadness in his eyes. "I'm afraid I'll wake up and realize it was all a dream."
Fiona's eyes welled up with tears. "During the meeting breaks, we can video call. You can also come to the company with me, but now..."
"I'll be a disturbance at the company, and I don't remember anything," Darwin said, showing his maturity. At least he had become more responsible than before.
"Then wait for me to finish work. I'll come back immediately after the meeting, and Charles and Chicago won't have any conflicts with you. They love you a lot," Fiona said, pausing for a moment. She then kissed Darwin and added, "I love you too."
Darwin's separation anxiety was somewhat alleviated by Fiona's words.
After getting ready, Fiona and Darwin had breakfast together.
Soon, Chicago and Charles woke up. Chicago was still a bit groggy, stumbling as she walked. With half-closed eyes, she made her way to Fiona and clung to her, much like a baby koala.
Fiona patted her on the back and said, "Chicago, you're in charge of Dad today."
Chicago nodded. "Mommy, don't worry, go make money."
Fiona then turned to Charles. "Janna and Thalassa will come later. Let them know what you want to eat. Today, you can eat whatever you like!"
"Really!" Chicago instantly became wide awake. "And what about Charlotte?"
She quickly added. "Well, Charlotte is probably exercising. Go find her after breakfast and ask her what she wants to eat!"
"I know what Charlotte likes to eat!" Chicago said confidently. "And Charlotte knows what I like to eat. We're each other's best friends!"
Chicago and Charles had a unique childhood. They only started formal schooling when they reached Armie. There weren't many other children in their community, and Chicago had always longed for a good friend.
"You can figure it out yourselves!" Fiona said, handing them a piece of paper. "This is what Dad likes to eat. Don't forget, okay?"
"Mommy, can Jessie come?" Chicago asked.
"No, this is a hospital," Charles replied.
Chicago sighed and said to Darwin, "I'll introduce Jessie to Dad tomorrow. I haven't been home for a few days. Jessie must think I'm lost!"
Fiona explained to Darwin, "Jessie is the golden retriever that Chicago adopted with your help. The one you saw in the video, rolling in the grass."
Darwin nodded in understanding. In the video, the dog's expression was a bit fierce, and Darwin was quite worried.
"Jessie was almost killed by bad people before. It was you who saved him!" Chicago quickly said, "What Godmother said was right!"
"What did Godmother say this time?" Fiona asked, unable to help but laugh.
"Godmother said that Dad is amazing, even Death would surrender in front of him!" Chicago repeated the words of comfort that Thalassa had said to her, "Jessie was saved by Dad. After experiencing such danger, Dad still came back to Mommy. Dad is really amazing!"
As Chicago spoke, she suddenly felt proud. "My dad is the best!" Chicago concluded with a sentence.
Darwin's ears turned red. He looked at Fiona, feeling a bit awkward. Fiona looked at him, imitating Chicago, and nodded vigorously. "Yes, Dad is super awesome!"
Darwin felt a bit helpless. Laura called at about the same time. Fiona answered.
"Chelsea, I'll be there in five minutes."
"Okay." After Fiona responded, she changed into a smart professional outfit.
Once she put it on, her demeanor immediately changed. She put on her watch and looked at the three of them. "You two, don't take advantage of Dad's love for you and bully him!" Fiona said seriously, setting the rules. "Charles, when you play games with Dad, remember to limit your time. Don't exceed one hour at a time, and no more than twice a day."
Charles nodded. He had wanted to play the new game with Dad and complete it... Who knew Fiona would set the rules! It would take a few more days.
"Chicago, when you teach Dad to read, you must be patient. You can't lose your temper."
"I'm not that kind of person!" Chicago immediately shook her head.
Seeing Fiona's silence, Chicago sighed and compromised, "Okay, I won't."
"Great! Then I'm off!"
"What about me?" Darwin asked. Fiona had given instructions to both of the younger ones, why not him?
"You?" Fiona was momentarily taken aback, then she smiled, walked up to Darwin, hooked her arm around his neck, and kissed him in front of Charles and Chicago.
Charles immediately turned his head. Chicago covered her eyes but stole a glance through her fingers.
"Just don't miss me too much, be good," Fiona caressed his neck, then left with a big smile.
Christopher had never seen Fiona in such a good mood. Every time she went to the company before, she seemed like she was going to kill someone.
"There's something, have the people below check it out." As she entered the elevator, Fiona's expression immediately turned cold, and she looked at Christopher, saying seriously.
At 7:50, Fiona's car arrived at Solomon.
It was the end of the month. In addition to the island development project, there was also the monthly meeting today. Usually, it was the vice president who presided over it. Today, Fiona was there, so she took charge.
The meeting was scheduled to start at nine o'clock. Fiona went to the president's office first. The meeting room was already bustling.
"She's here?" A shareholder heard that Fiona had arrived and quickly stood up.
"How many people are here? Did Mr. Solomon Jr. show up?"
"Just one." The messenger sat down. "One? But the news was so sensational, saying that Mr. Solomon Jr. had returned. Is it true or false?"
"Probably false. If Mr. Solomon Jr. had returned, why wouldn't he come to the company…"
"Haven't you heard that rumor?"
"What rumor?"
"Fiona found a stand-in to prevent the Solomon family from taking Mr. Solomon Jr.'s inheritance. That's the rumor..."
As soon as this was said, no one in the meeting dared to say a word.
