Chapter 339 Graveyard Encounter

Kenny wasn’t sure whether Buddy understood Thalassa or not, but the dog suddenly turned to Kenny and let out a couple of barks.

Thalassa, laughing heartily, plopped down onto the ground and clapped her hands in amusement.

People who were leaving the cemetery, having completed their solemn visits, cast surprised glances at the sound of boisterous laughter amidst the somber setting.

Kenny walked over, bent down to grab Thalassa’s hand, and helped her to her feet. "Mrs. Walker, what kind of tall tales have you been spinning to your friend about me?"

"Nothing of the sort, right Buddy?" Thalassa responded, holding on to Kenny's hand and looking down at Buddy for agreement.

Buddy was all smiles and pants, his tail still wagging.

Exhaustion must have caught up with him. His stamina was waning, and he began to slow down after a couple of stumbles.

Kenny eyed Thalassa. "Don't think I can't figure it out."

"Figure what out?" Thalassa leaned closer to Kenny, a teasing smile playing on her lips.

"Do I get a reward for guessing?" Kenny's gaze drifted almost imperceptibly over Thalassa's plush lips.

"Sure!" Thalassa didn't hesitate. "What do you want?"

"I'll let you know when I’ve decided." Kenny glanced at Buddy. "I bet my wife told you that I'm actually a chicken, didn’t she?"

Buddy barked in response.

Thalassa looked puzzled.

"Did you hear that?" Thalassa asked in surprise.

Kenny wrapped an arm around her shoulder. "I'll never tell, Mrs. Walker. My father-in-law is waiting to meet his less-than-impressive son-in-law. How about we catch up with your friends later?"

Thalassa let Kenny lead her forward.

She turned briefly to wave at Buddy. "I'll come back to play with you in a bit! You’re like the little brother I never had."

As she spoke, Kenny's soft laughter filled the air.

Thalassa turned around, elbowing him playfully in the chest. "What's so funny?"

"How could you be older?" Kenny's eyes softened as he looked at her, unabashedly doting. "You're clearly more like a little sister, you know. You should call me 'big bro' instead."

"No way!"

Thalassa was allergic to the term.

"I'll call you 'little bro', Kenny." She was firm.

Kenny caught on to her irritation immediately.

He gently tousled her hair. "Actually, 'husband' sounds much nicer than any of those."

Thalassa's ears instantly turned red.

"Take your time. There’s no rush."

Kenny wasn't pushing her. He'd agree to anything she said.

They had walked quite a distance and were almost at their destination.

As they turned the corner, Thalassa and Kenny bumped into someone heading their way.

"Thalassa!"

The sound of Justin's voice instantly wiped the smile from her face.

Ah... she must have forgotten to check the forecast today because if this wasn't an indication of an ill-fated trip, nothing was.

Thalassa raised her eyes to see the newcomers.

Wow, they were all here.

Justin, Maria, Chris, and his two brothers were all there.

"Did you bring them along?" Thalassa asked Maria, her tone noticeably cold.

In all her years living with the Shaw family, Thalassa had never allowed them to visit her father's grave.

"Did you discuss it with your mom?" Chris's younger brother Shawn started angrily. "Even if I hadn't bumped into you today, I would have come looking for you. You almost wrecked our brother's wedding and got Aunt hospitalized due to stress over such a small issue. And despite everything, you refuse to admit any fault. You even stirred things up with a lawsuit and severed ties with your aunt. Are you really so heartless, Thalassa?"

"Shawn!" Justin rebuked in a low tone.

Kenny's face darkened, and he opened his mouth, about to speak, but Thalassa gripped his hand, stopping him.

Even speaking to them made Thalassa feel dirty. They were utterly repulsive!

He ignored Shawn and turned to Maria, who was pale. "I'll be moving Dad's grave soon. There’s no need for you to come by anymore."

"Thalassa, your mom has just been having nightmares these past few nights. She’s been dreaming about your dad, and that's why she wanted to visit. We were worried something might happen to her, so we just came along," Justin explained somberly. "I understand you're upset about what happened before, but it’s been years since your father was laid to rest. It wouldn’t be right to disturb his peace over something so minor."

"Whether it's right or not isn’t for you to decide," Thalassa retorted.

Having said her piece, Thalassa didn’t want to argue further. She took Kenny's hand and attempted to bypass the group.

"What do you want mom to do, Thalassa? What will it take for you to let go of your anger?" Maria's voice quivered.

Thalassa paused, glancing back at her. "You don’t need to do anything. Just continue being Mrs. Shaw."

Maria flinched violently.

Shawn seemed to have reached his breaking point. "Don't act all high and mighty just because you're earning the big bucks now, Thalassa. Apologize right now, apologize to Aunt!"

As he spoke, Shawn reached out to grab Thalassa. But before he could touch her, the man beside her seized Shawn's hand in a movement too swift for anyone to clearly see.

There was a snap, and Shawn started wailing as he crouched down, his hand hanging limply as if it had been disconnected from the wrist.

"Shawn!" Justin and Maria exclaimed in shock.

"How could you do that to someone?" Walker, the youngest of the Shaw brothers, rounded on Kenny in anger. "I'm a lawyer, I can..."

"Mr. Lawyer, he was about to lay his hands on my wife. I was merely defending her," Kenny responded calmly. "Of course, if you wish to sue me, you’re welcome to try."

After all, his legal team had been idle lately.

"Thalassa, is this the man you married?" Maria exclaimed in astonishment as she turned incredulously to Kenny.

It wasn't their first encounter, and Maria was surprised. How could such an attractive man be so prone to violence?

He had hit Chris; and now, in a fit of rage, he had gone and broken Shawn’s wrist!

It was dangerous for anyone to marry a guy like that!

“You need to get a divorce!”

Maria bolted upright, her voice cracking with fervor. “I will not stand by and watch you marry an abuser!”

“My husband Kenny is the kindest and most wonderful man in the world. You can't imagine just how much I adore him. Divorce is completely off the table,” Thalassa replied, her voice an oasis of calm amid the storm.

“Do you really always have to push Aunt’s buttons like this, Thalassa? If anything were to happen to her...” Chris finally spoke up, his usual silence broken.

They could hardly bear to look at Thalassa and Kenny, who were attached at the hip.

“That’s funny.” Thalassa cut Chris off with a chilly indifference. “As if she ever cared a bit about my well-being. And what right do you have to lecture me? Mind your own business, Chris.”

“Cut it out. Let’s get Shawn to the nearest hospital. He’s in tech, for heaven's sake. If he can’t use his hand, He’ll lose his livelihood!” After addressing the room, Justin turned to Thalassa and Kenny, saying, “Thalassa, I’ve always cared for you like my own family, like my daughter, but now you’re letting this violent man hurt your brothers? I won’t stand for it anymore!”

Resentment filled Justin's eyes.

“Chris, call the police now! I want this hooligan behind bars!”
