Chapter 196 They Must Be Taken Away
She recognized the voice on the phone.
That damned Chelsea had actually managed to hook up with Darwin.
And Darwin's name for her... was Fiona.
Had he really decided Chelsea was Fiona?
The thought drove Lilian crazy!
Initially, it was Darwin who couldn't forget himself and found Fiona to stand in for her.
And now, he had abandoned her for Fiona!
Was that fair?
Before long, Darwin, who had just left, returned.
"Darwin, you forgot your phone," said Lilian apologetically as she handed him his phone, "There was a call just now. I was groggy and thought it was my phone, so I picked it up without thinking. But the person just stayed silent for a moment and hung up. You should call back quickly to see if it's something important."
Darwin frowned slightly.
He unlocked his phone.
His expression darkened instantly when he saw Fiona's missed call.
"Was it an important call?" asked Lilian, feigning ignorance of the caller ID.
"Maybe," replied Darwin curtly, "You should rest."
With that, he strode out while redialing the number.
Lilian watched his retreating figure, angrily clenching the bedsheets!
No wonder, despite her best efforts to look pitiful, Darwin refused to stay the night with her. It turns out he had an appointment with that wretch, didn't he?
Lilian even imagined Darwin rolling in bed with Chelsea, someone she couldn't beg for.
This woman, just because she shared a similar face to Fiona's, could so easily get what she wanted!
Meanwhile, Darwin made the call.
Fiona picked up quickly.
"Chelsea..."
"Are you out of your mind, Darwin?" Fiona cut him off mid-sentence, her voice full of annoyance. "Haven't we made this clear? Are you having people follow me? Taking my pictures?"
Darwin's excitement vanished entirely.
"Is this why you called?" he asked.
"Listen, Darwin, this is the first and last time I'm warning you. Stop sending flowers to my studio! Stop following me and stay away from me! Or don't blame me for the consequences!"
After saying that, Fiona hung up the phone.
Five years, and he hadn't changed one bit.
Just as suffocating as ever!
Darwin stood in front of the elevator listening to the droning beep. His hand slowly lowered.
He couldn't help but wonder.
Is showing weakness useless?
Or was it that to have Fiona, he had to take her by force?
A dark, oppressive fog quickly enveloped Darwin's heart, shrouding him completely.
The next day, Janna informed Chicago and Charles that she was returning to the island.
Charles didn't mind as he had been packing before Janna even arrived.
"No!" Chicago showed an unprecedented resistance.
"Chicago, don't you want to go back to the island to see your little animals?" Janna coaxed gently, "You haven't seen them for so long. They must be missing you. Plus, Dagmar's birthday is coming up. You've been with Dagmar for his birthday every year. Don't you want to this year?"
"I'll call Uncle Dagmar right now and ask him to come to Armie Country for his birthday!" Chicago was unexpectedly stubborn.
"Is she hitting puberty early?" Ashton, arms crossed, nudged Fiona's shoulder, who was frowning.
"Dagmar won't come to Armie Country!" Fiona walked over, her tone stern, "Chicago, we had an agreement to be rational. You can't just keep saying 'no' to Grandma and not provide a reason."
Chicago's eyelids drooped.
"I like Armie Country. I want to stay with Mommy and be with Ashton. I don't want to go anywhere!" she said with a sob, "Mommy, I'll be good. Please don't make me go back to the island!"
"Chicago, even if you stay here, I won't let you see your uncle again," Fiona bluntly exposed Chicago's hidden wish.
Chicago was startled.
"Why?" Tears welled up in her eyes as she asked sadly, "Uncle has been very nice to Chicago. Why can't I see him?"
"Then why do you want to see him?" Fiona knelt down, asking sternly.
Chicago sobbed, "Uncle is nice to me, I like uncle!"
Fiona's heart felt as if it was being stabbed.
Why did it have to be? Why did Chicago had to meet Darwin?
The adults in the living room, aware of the situation, all looked somber.
"You can see him one more time, but only if you go back to the island with Grandma," Janna finally said.
Fiona frowned instinctively.
"I don't want to go back to the island!" Chicago was desperate.
"You only have two choices. You can go back to the island with Grandma Janna now or see that uncle one more time and then return to the island afterwards," Janna said seriously.
She rarely was this strict and not indulgent with Chicago.
Chicago turned to look at Mommy, then with a look of desperation, glanced at Ashton. It appeared that no one was interested in coming to her rescue. Chicago really had no choice.
"I need to call Uncle!"
When Darwin received Chicago's call, he had just finished a meeting. Although it was an unfamiliar number, after the previous incident of missing her call, he would answer any number.
Darwin picked up the phone and heard a little voice on the other end, tinged with tears, "Is that you, Uncle?"
Darwin furrowed his brows slightly, his heart instinctively tightening, "What's wrong, Chicago? Are you crying?"
Chicago pouted, her eyes welling up with tears, "Uncle, I'm going home."
"Don't you want to go home?" Darwin asked softly.
"I'll miss you and the kitten."
"Kitten?" Fiona frowned, wondering since when her daughter had secrets with Darwin that she wasn't aware of.
"Uncle will send you pictures," Darwin soothed.
"Uncle, do you have time? I want to come see the kitten and you," Chicago sniffled, "I won't be able to see you or the kitten anymore!"
At that point, Chicago's emotions completely crumbled, and she burst into tears.
Darwin had never handled a situation like this and didn't know what to do, until he suddenly saw an advertisement for an amusement park on the LED billboard outside the building.
"Chicago, ask your parents if I can take you to the amusement park," Darwin suggested.
Chicago looked at Fiona.
"Mommy, Uncle asked if he can take me to the amusement park..."
Fiona sighed softly, feeling defeated, she nodded.
She wanted to leave something wonderful in Chicago's childhood.
"Uncle, Mommy said yes!" Chicago was immediately overjoyed, managing words between sobs to Darwin.
After arranging a time, the call ended.
