Chapter 587 If This Isn't Love!
The first two photos, it seemed, garnered little attention from the netizens.
"Oh my god, come over my friends, come and see the loving gaze!"
"Just from his eyes, one can discern the myriad of intimate musings Darwin harbored toward Fiona!"
"Tsk tsk tsk, this scene could effortlessly rival those in countless television shows and movies!"
"When was this? Fiona looked so beautiful! It makes me jealous of Darwin. I want to hold a beauty like her in my arms too!"
"If this isn't love, then nothing is."
In response to the post, a woman chimed in, "Haha, truth be told, this photo was secretly taken by my husband back in the day. He and his buddies said the same thing as you did! "
There were also netizens deeply immersed in gossip.
"Madam, I daresay your husband is truly Darwin's childhood friend. Please give us fans some exclusive secrets!"
The woman replied, "I'll have my husband ask Darwin if he can divulge any secrets to you. Please, bear with me a moment!"
After a brief interlude, the woman returned. She retweeted the photo on Twitter, adding, "Very well! However, my husband's knowledge is somewhat limited."
"Did Darwin really pursue Lilian?" asked someone.
"Yes, he did. It's said that when she saved Darwin, he caught a glimpse of her and fell in love at first sight!" the woman answered.
"What?! But if he fell for her instantly, how did they drift apart?"
"Aye, the inception of their tale seems idyllic, yet it culminated in chaos. I am at a loss for words!"
"You don’t know what to say? Was Darwin the one who betrayed her? It’s known to all that Lilian betrayed Darwin and got married to someone else. Anyway, Darwin and Fiona should be together forever and ever!"
Amidst the fervent debate, someone interjected, "In truth, Lilian did not save Darwin at all. She merely posed as her!"
This remark swiftly vanished amidst the torrent of other comments. Yet the discourse persisted.
"During those bygone years, Darwin was really mean to Fiona, right? My heart aches for her!"
The young lady responded, "My husband attests that Darwin seldom introduced Fiona to his companions, yet from what he knew, Darwin was fiercely possessive of her. Anyone who dared to mess with Fiona or make inappropriate jokes about her found themselves in a bad situation. Darwin even bought Fiona a mansion and was really generous to her, but I don't know about anything else."
Beneath the thread, another individual shared the official promotional image of Emerald Pool. "Is there anyone unaware that Darwin acquired a vast estate complete with a verdant woodland and natural reservoir here for Fiona? And in a quaint turn of events, Fiona had also generously donated all the money bestowed upon her by Darwin."
After the commenter brought that up, the conversation flowed even more.
"Yes, precisely! Despite the unfortunate plane crash, Darwin persisted in Fiona's charitable endeavors. Picture this, Darwin continuing his late wife's philanthropic legacy while yearning for her, his love-laden tears staining his cheeks."
"However, it pains me to say, despite Darwin's considerable contributions to Fiona, she callously terminated their relationship just before his planned marriage!"
After fielding a few more inquiries, the woman observed the escalating traffic on her homepage. Wary of potential missteps, she swiftly concluded the Q&A session.
On a lazy afternoon at home, Fiona lounged on a hammock, casually swinging one leg. On her phone screen was a photo she had never seen before. Judging by the timestamp on the photo, it was taken during her fourth summer with Darwin.
Darwin approached and glanced at the photo. He had just received a call from Noah and had already discussed the matter. Since drifting apart from Wyatt, Darwin's relationship with his childhood friends had also faded away. At first, he was quite surprised. After hearing the explanation, Darwin agreed without hesitation - his wife could continue answering questions from online users, but she couldn't make things up.
"Do you recognize this?" Fiona inquired, brandishing her phone.
Darwin shook his head. "They took it without my consent and dared not show it to me." If they had revealed the photo to him earlier, it might have met an untimely demise.
"Your expression is rather..." Fiona began, but Darwin's approach interrupted her.
Hooking her arm around his neck, Fiona playfully remarked, "Quite... audacious!"
Darwin's laughter filled the room. Drawing closer, Darwin bestowed a tender kiss upon Fiona's lips. "Had I seen this, I would have ravished you upon returning home."
Arching an eyebrow, Fiona affectionately pinched Darwin's ear. "You were always rather... vigorous."
Their playful banter ensued.
And then...
"Mama! Mama!" Chicago's urgent voice pierced the air.
Darwin offered a wry smile as they reluctantly parted. Fiona sat upright, extending her arms to welcome Chicago.
"What's the matter?" Fiona tousled her daughter's unruly hair.
"Burl was mischievous! He sent me a bug." Chicago, now equipped with a smartwatch, displayed it to her mother amid sobs.
Fiona clicked it, and in an instant, a plump green caterpillar materialized, causing her to recoil in surprise.
"What is Burl up to?" Darwin frowned, moving to remove the watch from Chicago's wrist.
"Don't worry, darling. Papa will handle it," Darwin reassured, crouching to comfort Chicago.
Sniffling, Chicago interjected, "Are you going to scold him? You can't scold Burl!"
Fiona erupted into laughter. "You compassionate little soul. Papa seeks retribution for you, yet you defend Burl?"
"We made a bet... I said caterpillars aren't frightening; they transform into butterflies! Burl doubted me, so I challenged him to bring one to prove I was not afraid. And he actually did!" Chicago explained, her voice trembling.
Fiona chuckled until her sides ached. "Oh, my brave girl. You didn't even tattle on your uncle for his mischief!"
Darwin exchanged a bemused glance with Fiona. Tenderly embracing Chicago, he reassured, "It's alright, darling. This caterpillar will soon blossom into a butterfly. Fear not."
Charles was sunbathing when he heard his sister crying. He promptly got up and walked over slowly.
Fiona smiled and told him what had happened.
After a moment's contemplation, Charles nodded. "Understood."
Much to Fiona's puzzlement, he then sauntered off.
"Charles, what do you intend to do?" Fiona asked, amused by her son's demeanor.
"To exact vengeance!"
Fiona laughed until her cheeks ached. She made no effort to dissuade him. However, she cautioned, "Uncle Burl is easily startled, so tread carefully."
Darwin regarded Fiona with a quizzical expression.
Nightfall descended.
Initially finding amusement in scaring Chicago, Burl soon felt remorse. As her uncle, he believed he had crossed a line. Determined to make amends, Burl resolved to craft a butterfly program to soothe her.
Little did he know…
As he settled before the computer, the screen abruptly darkened. Puzzled, Burl rose to investigate, finding no issue with the power supply.
Returning to the screen, he noticed a small white dot at its center.
Frowning, he leaned in for a closer look.
Suddenly, without warning, a bloody ghost head popped out. "Ah!" Burl screamed at the top of his lungs. He was so scared that he ran downstairs as fast as he could.
