Chapter 560 Love at First Sight
Kenny paused, a puzzled smile on his face. "What restraints?"
Thalassa looked perplexed. "Didn't you just suggest we could ... try something different?"
Her voice trailed off as her cheeks turned an even deeper shade of red. "Oh, I remember!" She quickly changed the subject. "I have dinner plans with Chicago tonight, I need to go soon," Thalassa said, suddenly standing up to leave.
However, before she could escape, Kenny caught her wrist and pulled her into his embrace. Thalassa let out a startled yelp, looking up at Kenny with wide eyes.
"I'm just kidding with you!" said Kenny, trying to reassure her. "You didn't get the wrong idea."
"Kenny!" Aston replied, her voice a mix of embarrassment and urgency.
But before another moment could pass, Kenny's lips met hers once more, this time the kiss was unlike any they had shared before. His kiss was gentle, yet it held an undeniable assertiveness.
Thalassa wasn't entirely sure how she'd made the transition from living room to bedroom without a clue. And it wasn't even her bedroom, but Kenny's.
Knowing that Kenny was coming back today, Thalassa had personally tidied up the room, changing the beddings for those that were fragrant and soft from the sunshine. She even placed vibrant, fresh flowers on display.
The large bed was soft and inviting.
Kenny had kissed Thalassa's forehead, eyes, and lips. As they locked gazes, Kenny kissed Thalassa's eyes again and then asked, "Thalassa, do you love me?"
She looked at him, nodding without hesitation. Thalassa couldn't pinpoint when she began to love Kenny. But she was certain that she loved him deeply. It was that kind of love which filled her with happiness and contentment at the thought of their future together, devoid of any worries.
After he received her response, Kenny seemed to cast aside all his reservations. He integrated all the techniques he had learned on the internet over the past few months since their marriage,
and applied them with finesse.
The glow of the moon pierced through the floor-to-ceiling windows, illuminating the hands of Kenny and Thalassa as they held each other tightly. The simple ring on Kenny's ring finger reflected beautifully in the moonlight.
Kenny had his sense of ceremony. When they married, he was okay with the fact that Thalassa had someone else in her heart. He was patient, waiting for Thalassa to gradually come closer to him, to accept and to fall in love with him.
However, when it came to their intimate life, Kenny was firm in his beliefs. He thought that their physical relationship should be not just about fulfilling desires, but also about the blending of their love. Only when Thalassa truly loved him, would their making love be truly meaningful.
The young groom couldn't completely stifle his own physical needs. The couple had stayed at home for a weekend, plus an entire Monday morning. If it hadn't been for the urgent business matter that Thalassa couldn't handle over the phone, they might have stayed together even longer.
After Thalassa hung up the phone, the sunlight streamed in from outside. She grabbed a pillow and sprawled on the bed. Kenny had kissed her beautiful shoulder blade.
"Ah, to be young is wonderful," she thought. Thalassa quietly squeezed the hand that was held in Kenny's.
Kenny, with his forehead resting against her back, chuckled, "You rest some more, I'll go make us something to eat."
"No need..." Thalassa turned over, wrapping her arms around Kenny's neck, and lifted her head to kiss his lips.
Kenny attempted to return the kiss. Thalassa, with a smile, playfully dodged away. "That’s enough from you!" she said.
Then it struck her that there was something very important she needed to ask. "Now that we're here, there's something I should probably ask you too," Thalassa said with a look of seriousness.
"What is it?" Kenny pulled her closer into his arms, burying his head into the crook of her neck as he asked in a muffled voice.
Thalassa's fingers weaved through Kenny's hair, delighting in its texture, which was softer and more pleasant to touch than Jessie's fur. She mused on the property Kenny had discussed selling previously due to financial constraints.
"You were saying to the broker that you needed the money, which is why you wanted to sell the land?" Thalassa inquired slowly.
Startled at first, Kenny burst into a chuckle, his shoulders quivering lightly with amusement.
"You're laughing, but Fiona told me you set a trap to catch me!" Thalassa playfully slapped his shoulder. "Now give it up! When did you first meet me? It wasn't when we were kids, was it?"
Thalassa pondered the timeline; she and Kenny had pursued their studies in different countries, indicating they couldn't have crossed paths during that time. Kenny was merely a child before Thalassa embarked on her overseas studies.
"Nope," Kenny replied, shaking his head.
"Well, when then?" Thalassa racked her brain but couldn't come up with an answer.
"Give me a kiss, and I'll tell you," Kenny proposed, looking up at Thalassa.
What an easy bargain. Without hesitation, Thalassa cupped Kenny's face and planted a deep French kiss on his lips.
"Out with it!" Her curiosity was insatiable.
Kenny felt a wave of comfort wash over him. He glanced at Thalassa and then out the window at the beautiful weather. He had met Thalassa on the eighth day after he had returned to the U.S. At that time, Kenny's disdain for the world had peaked. He had grown weary of learning how to appear as a slightly less frightening, normal human to others.
Struggling to find a reason to linger in this tedious world, he chose not to return to the Walker family home. Instead, he moved to Bay City, to be on his own, partly so that if he ever grew tired of living, his demise wouldn't sadden his family if they stumbled upon his body.
The night before meeting Thalassa, Kenny hadn't slept a wink. Insomnia had plagued him for years. At dawn, he swapped into his jogging gear and hit the road, hoping physical exhaustion might grant him some sleep. But if not, perhaps he needn't endure this pointless existence any longer.
After jogging for some time, he stumbled upon a small park close to his neighborhood, almost as if it was meant to be. As he was preparing to head back home after a quick jog around the park, he caught the sound of joyful children's laughter. Scanning the area, he couldn't spot any kids, but his gaze fell upon a woman seated on a bench. She wore a light green sunshirt and black yoga pants, her soft hair illuminated by the sunlight in a golden hue. She appeared very pale, almost radiant in the light, suggesting she might be grappling with insomnia like him. With one knee drawn close to her chest, she slept in a tangled position.
Somehow, Kenny found himself drawn to her and approached. "Shh!" he whispered. At that moment, a soft, mushy voice came from behind him.
Kenny turned around and saw an adorable little girl covered in blades of grass. "Mister, you can't disturb my godmother while she's sleeping! She works so hard and has to take care of my mom's baby too, that's me... She gets so tired, so please don't bother her, okay?"
Kenny instinctively nodded his head.
The little girl quickly resumed playing with a dog.
Kenny didn't know what came over him. Rather than leaving, he found himself sitting down opposite her.
People were coming and going, but it was as if Kenny's senses had been completely blocked out.
After an unknown length of time, the woman finally groggily woke up.
"Chicago," she called out, locating the girl frolicking in the grass, then she stood up, exasperated, "Babe! Why don't you just fly away?!"
Kenny chuckled involuntarily. Realizing he had laughed, Kenny himself was stunned.
Looking toward the grass, he saw her trip over the dog, falling clumsily to the ground. Kenny gasped and instinctively stood to go help.
But the woman on the ground simply stretched out and lay there, relaxed and content.
Standing there, Kenny's irritation dissolved away.
He knew.
He might have found purpose and redemption in life.
