Chapter 993

Stella was unaware that the room she stayed in was always the last to attend morning prayers. By the time she reached Alexander's place, the room was already empty. On the floor, a pair of slippers, one large and one small, were neatly placed in front of Alexander's bed. Stella couldn't help but laugh at the same time.

Just as she was about to say something, Alexander came up from behind her, first gently wrapping his arms around her, then gradually tightening his embrace, burying his head in the crook of her neck.

"What's wrong?" Stella gently patted his arm.

"I saw Father Ben." Alexander's voice choked. "He's in very poor health, and I can't save him."

Stella's heart skipped a beat.

Previously, a patient of Preston's had asked Alexander for an examination.

Stella had heard Preston say, "If Uncle Alexander says he can't save him, then there's no need to struggle."

Among the family doctors, apart from the elders, Alexander was the most skilled.

"I should have come back earlier; even if it was just three months earlier, there might have been a chance to save him!" Alexander continued.

Hearing this, Stella immediately became serious.

She gently pushed Alexander away, turned around, cupped his cheeks with both hands and looked at him earnestly. "Alexander, matters of life and death, there are no 'ifs.' This is not your fault."

Alexander's eyes were red. He looked extremely sorrowful. "I don't want Father Ben to die."

Alexander's early obsession began the day he saved Stella from nearly drowning in the pool. Since then, he had harbored what he considered wicked thoughts, resolutely leaving here, waiting futilely day by day with no hope.

That was, until the night before, the only obsession in his life.
Now, there was another.

He knew life and death were predetermined, but he still didn't want Master to die.

"I understand how you feel." Stella hugged him, gently patting his back. "Then we'll use the best medicine we have to make sure Father Ben lives as long as possible!"

"I prescribed some medication and had the pharmacy in the capital city send life-extending drugs," Alexander said, holding Stella.

Her scent lingered in his nostrils, dispelling his sadness and fear gradually.

"But Alexander." Stella's soft hand stroked Alexander's back. "Keeping Father Ben means ensuring he doesn't suffer. Can you promise me that?"

Alexander trembled slightly. The next second, he hugged Stella even tighter and then nodded.

"You didn't sleep last night, did you?" Stella asked gently.

Alexander nodded again.

"Then go take a shower and get some good sleep," Stella coaxed him. "Your main task now is to take care of Father Ben, no more volunteer work."

Stella didn't attend morning prayers. After making sure Alexander was asleep, she prepared to go to the church to get something to eat. She also hoped to run into Liam and ask about Father Ben.

Unexpectedly, she didn't see Liam. Instead, she ran into Mason.

"Why didn't you come to morning prayers?" Mason appeared on Stella's way to the church, his tone harsh and his eyes a bit red, as if he had been crying. He hadn't seen Stella and Alexander in the morning. Not to mention Stella, Alexander would always be on time and attend morning prayers. Mason thought they had left.

"Alexander took care of Father Ben all night. I just got him to sleep. How could I have time for morning prayers?" Stella said righteously.

Mason was shocked. "Did Father Ben see Father Alexander?"
