Chapter 118 Worry-Free
Ashton wasn't in a good mood in the end, all because of the interruption by Rupert Wells.
"He must have been following me!"
"It's fine, I'm not hiding from anyone!"
"I can't feel at ease until Darwin knows you're pregnant," Ashton furrowed his brows.
"Sweetheart, just relax," Fiona reassured.
"Don't call me sweetheart. Last time at that mansion, when you called me sweetheart, Darwin's eyes nearly dug my grave!"
Fiona laughed.
Ashton escorted Fiona back to her apartment and, in the process, took a look upstairs as well.
"I used to worry that you wouldn't eat well or have a good place to stay!" Ashton strolled around, grumbling but visibly happy.
After the walk, she took out her iPad and started planning tomorrow's layout by sketching on the spot.
Ashton had a touch of romance in her, meticulously arranging everything from the entrance to the small study in the bedroom.
"We'll put the baby crib here once it arrives."
"I want to keep the baby's little shoes and clothes in there," Fiona said.
"Perfect!" Ashton clapped her hands enthusiastically.
She was full of energy and ready to leave.
"I have to go back and work on the props. I'll come once he leaves tomorrow, okay?"
"Okay! Thank you, godmother, for the hard work."
"The godmother doesn't feel it's hard at all. Let me give the little baby a kiss before I go!" Ashton squatted down and kissed Fiona's belly through the thick clothes.
Fiona couldn't help but laugh and cry.
Ashton left like a gust of wind.
Fiona sat on the couch when she received a WhatsApp message from Darwin.
"Wife, something came up tonight, don't wait for me for dinner."
"Got it," Fiona replied.
After Darwin sent the message, he massaged his brow. After sitting for a moment, he grabbed his car keys and left the company. Half an hour later, he arrived at Lilian's house.
"Darwin, you're here!" Lilian was wearing an apron, looking much better now.
Darwin frowned, "Weren't you feeling unwell?"
Lilian spoke frankly and stuck out her tongue, "I lied to you. You took care of me all day yesterday, so I wanted to thank you by cooking for you myself!"
Mia seemed like she wanted to go out and complained, "I said we could just eat out, but she insisted on cooking herself. Look, she even injured three fingers!"
Mia pulled Lilian's hand from behind, and Lilian quickly retreated as if she didn't want Darwin to see.
"It's alright, come in quickly! The dishes will cool down soon!"
Darwin hesitated for a moment. His gaze swept over her fingers, the bandages stained with blood. Still, he went inside.
Mia and Lilian exchanged a glance and swiftly followed him. The table full of food didn't look as delicious.
It was far from Fiona's level. But Darwin glanced at the table and thought to himself
Lilian? She used to be unremarkable from the beginning.
"The appearance is not good, but Mia says the taste is acceptable!" Lilian quickly said.
"Hmm."
Darwin sat down.
"Lilian, you don't have to do this." He said in a calm tone.
"I want to do it for you." Lilian looked at Darwin affectionately, "I should have done this for you many years ago."
Mentioning many years ago, Darwin felt a sharp pain in his heart. When he first met Lilian, Darwin was young. Somehow, he felt familiar with her, as if it was love at first sight. He chased after Lilian for a long time. She almost became his obsession. Later, after a difficult path, they finally got together. But after an accident, she married someone else. It can be said that Lilian betrayed him at the time he loved her the most. He hated her for five years because of that.
But in the end, the truth of the past and her tragic situation appeared before his eyes.
"Lilian, now you are free, make sure to restore yourself to how you were." Darwin said seriously, "We will both have a better future."
Lilian's hand stiffened for a moment. She forced a smile.
"Darwin, you ended the engagement... because of someone you like, right?"
Darwin saw that she seemed emotionally stable. Since she asked actively, he honestly replied, "Yes."
"She must be a very good person!" Lilian smiled, wiped away her tears in panic.
Darwin lowered his eyelids, "She... is indeed very good, very good."
"I'm glad you can find happiness!" Lilian quickly said, "You should have told me yesterday, I even planned for you to accompany me to the hospital in the future, what kind of talk is that!"
"Lilian, if you need anything, you can still come to me." Darwin promised sincerely.
"Will she be angry?" Lilian asked.
"No," Darwin wouldn't let Fiona know.
"That's good... because I really can't go to the hospital by myself..." Lilian whispered, "I'm sorry, I've become so useless..."
"It will get better." Darwin comforted her.
Before this meal could be properly eaten, Wyatt's phone call came.
"Wyatt has something, I have to go." Darwin got up.
"Okay, you go and take care of your business, don't worry about me!" Lilian said hurriedly.
Darwin agreed and left in big strides, without any reluctance. He didn't even look back.
Lilian sat there, her face getting colder and colder. After a while, she directly overturned the warm tablecloth. The soup splattered all over the floor.
Meanwhile at Ignite Bar., Wyatt was talking to Darwin on the phone.
"You came from Lilian?" Wyatt's face changed after hearing Darwin's words, "Darwin, you can't be the real master returning and wanting to drive Secretary Woods, let's be honest. If you drive people away again, I will leave with them, and you can't get angry about it!"
"You're dreaming!" Darwin glanced at Wyatt.
Wyatt shocked, "Well, what do you think then?"
"Lilian and I have moved on, but her situation is not good right now..."
"If you've moved on, can you leave her situation to me if you're really concerned? I'll accompany her to see the doctor and oversee her treatment!" Wyatt was so anxious, "Darwin, if you make the wrong choice this time, you don't even know what you could lose!"
Looking at Darwin's behavior, he probably doesn't even know about the pregnancy. But Fiona has agreed to marry him, probably soon. At this critical moment, if Darwin messes up...
"I know what I'm doing." Darwin finished his drink in one gulp. He checked the time, "Fiona is still waiting for me at home, I have to go back!"
Watching Darwin leave, Wyatt sighed. He had hinted at everything, now it depended on whether his brother would sober up or not. It's Lilian after all. The person who has been on his brother's mind since they were young.
Darwin smelled of smoke as he entered the building. Fiona was still awake, sitting in the study and writing a letter in a baby-like tone for Darwin. When she heard Darwin calling for his wife outside, she quickly put the letter away, put on her shoes, and ran out. As Darwin saw her running towards him, he opened his arms and embraced her tightly.
All he could feel at this moment, was peace of mind. With her, everything is worry-free.
