Chapter 40 Double Strike

Darwin froze for a moment. "What nonsense are you talking about?" He slammed the table.

Henry shuddered, finally realizing that Darwin truly didn't know Aishah had passed away.

But Darwin was so close to Fiona, how could he not know?

During that time, Fiona had lost a lot of weight.

Henry added, "Oh, I remember now, you were abroad for half a month."

Darwin was already confused. "Henry Clark, I'm not in the mood to joke with you!"

Henry said, "If I could, I would wish I were joking too, but Ms. Woods personally asked me for leave, saying she needed to bury an elder!"

"Impossible!" Darwin stood up and shouted.

But the next second, he suddenly remembered the post Fiona had made at the end of April, which he saw the night before. It was a grayish tone with undeniable sorrow.

"Call Fiona!" Darwin said in a deep voice.

Henry nodded and quickly took out his phone.

He dialed the number, but once again, the cold mechanical voice came through. "The number you have dialed is currently switched off..."

"Her phone is off." Henry looked at Darwin in fear.

"Track her whereabouts immediately. I need to know where she is as soon as possible." Darwin's voice was so cold it seemed to freeze everything around him.

"Yes!" Henry turned and left.

Darwin stood there, unable to calm his breathing.

Then, he kicked over the file rack beside him.

The people outside the CEO's office heard the commotion inside and were all terrified.

After a while, the CEO's private elevator rang.

Wyatt hurriedly came out of the elevator.

"Mr. Durham, why are you back?" Dubbs Taylor asked.

"Is Darwin in the office?" Wyatt asked.

"He is, but..." Before Dubbs could finish his sentence, Wyatt rushed straight to the CEO's office.

He opened the door.

The office was a mess.

It was clear that Darwin had thrown a huge tantrum.

Darwin was on the phone.

But the other line was still the mechanical voice.

"What are you doing here?" Darwin glanced at Wyatt.

"Where's Fiona?" Wyatt asked.

'Fiona! Fiona! It's always Fiona!' Darwin thought.

He said, "Are you asking me? I damn well want to know where she is too!"

"Hasn't she come back?" Wyatt asked in shock.

"What kind of tone is that?" Darwin realized something was off.

Wyatt was pulling at his hair, looking nothing like his usual self.

"Fiona was kidnapped last night, did you know that?" He raised his voice.

The blood in Darwin's body seemed to freeze instantly.

He asked, "Kidnapped?"

He quickly walked up to Wyatt and grabbed his collar. "Say it again, who was kidnapped?"

"That gang leader named Mack had someone kidnap Fiona!" Wyatt said in a deep voice, "When the rescue team arrived, she was trapped in a car about to explode by Mack's men. She was this close! She was this close to dying! Darwin, how could you not know? She called me! She must have tried to reach you too! How the hell could you not know! Didn't you arrange for people in New Port? Why was no one protecting her!"

Every word he said was hitting Darwin hard.

"She did call me!" Darwin quickly took out his phone and found the call from last night.

"That's the time!" Wyatt shouted, "What were you doing then? You answered the call, how could you not know Fiona was kidnapped?"

Darwin said, "I was in the shower, it was Hathaway..."

"You let Hathaway answer Fiona's call?" Wyatt raised his voice, incredulous. "You know how much she cares..."

"Shut up!" Darwin grabbed Wyatt's collar and slammed him into a row of bookshelves.

Wyatt winced in pain.

He had drunk too much last night.

In the morning, before he was fully awake, Sean had rushed over to tell him about it.

Listening to the details, Wyatt almost went crazy.

He called Fiona, but her phone was off.

He went to the hospital, but Fiona had already left.

Sean described the situation as extremely dangerous.

Wyatt was terrified and returned to Bay City in a panic.

But, Darwin still didn't know all of these.

She had been working for him and almost lost her life. And he still didn't know.

Wyatt pushed Darwin away, straightened his wrinkled clothes, and said to Darwin with unprecedented contempt, "Mr. Solomon, congratulations on your upcoming wedding. Wishing you and Miss Ross a lifetime of happiness. I'll find Fiona, whether she's hurt or disabled, I'll take care of her!"

With that, he turned to leave.

But Darwin grabbed him and punched him to the ground. "Back off, it's not your concern." Darwin coldly dropped a sentence and left the CEO's office.

Outside, the people in the CEO's office didn't even dare to breathe. But there were always some who didn't know better.

"Darwin!" Bella seized the moment and ran to Darwin in a coquettish manner. "Did Fiona do something to make you angry again? She's just upset about your engagement, you..."

Before Bella could finish, Darwin coldly rebuked, "Get lost!"

Bella shivered in fear.

"Go to HR, get your pay for the past few days, and then get out of the company," Darwin left after saying that.

Not even Bella's face, which resembled Lilian's more, could calm Darwin's rage.

He went straight to B1, where Fiona's car was usually parked.

Darwin looked at it.

His mind was filled with the nine desperate and sorrowful pictures Fiona had posted.

Her grandmother had died more than half a year ago, who was her only relative.

What kind of feelings had she been harboring while staying by his side for the past six months?

But why didn't she tell him?

Darwin started the car and drove straight to Fiona's apartment.

The building had two units per floor.

Darwin hadn't been there for over a month, almost since he found out he was going to marry Hathaway.

At first, he didn't plan to keep Fiona.

He didn't think he couldn't live without Fiona.

So, he started to distance himself from her.

But soon, Darwin realized that without Fiona by his side, nothing felt right.

The day before he returned from a business trip, he decided to spend more money to keep her.

He never thought she would be unwilling.

Darwin stood at the door and rang the doorbell.

Then he counted to three.

In the past, she would always open the door and hug him with a smile after three rings.

But today, the panic in Darwin's heart grew.

He immediately used his fingerprint to unlock the door.

He pushed the door open.

However, the house was empty.

At a glance, there was no trace of her ever being there.

The little toys, the flowers, were all gone.

At the entrance, only his shoes were neatly placed.
