Chapter 660 Stella
Darwin paused to contemplate.
"Mrs. Durham, you're aware of the two cases reported in the news last night, right?" he queried.
Mrs. Durham, on the other end, was suddenly taken aback. "Are you suggesting..."
"Wyatt had an accident during the same timeframe, and it occurred on a road devoid of surveillance cameras. Moreover, the car's dashcam was missing. It's too much of a coincidence," Darwin murmured, his voice barely above a whisper. "I've just discovered that in addition to these two domestic murder cases, there have been several similar and interconnected murders overseas, including a plane crash."
Mrs. Durham drew in a sharp breath.
She glanced around.
The thick fog outside weighed heavily on the atmosphere inside the waiting hall.
To Mrs. Durham, everyone in the waiting hall seemed suspicious.
"I understand, and I'll have Mr. Durham taken back now, but I'll still return. Wyatt was severely injured," Mrs. Durham sobbed on the other end.
"Auntie, what if things unfold as I anticipate, and Wyatt discovers the truth after he wakes up? How guilty will he feel?" Darwin's voice resonated deeply. "Do you think it's wise? I'll arrange for a private plane to come over as soon as possible. If you decide to return, you can take the private plane I've arranged. How does that sound?"
"Okay!" Mrs. Durham agreed immediately. "Darwin, thank you!"
"You're welcome. Stay safe on your journey back, and remain vigilant."
"Okay!"
The call concluded on that end.
Meanwhile, the Darwin couple arrived at the hospital where Wyatt was being treated.
They reached the area outside the intensive care unit.
In addition to Wyatt's assistant, there was a woman seated on a bench, clad in thin attire, her face concealed, her body hunched over. Her long, curly hair appeared somewhat disheveled.
Upon hearing footsteps, the woman instinctively looked up.
"Stella Luna?" Fiona exclaimed in astonishment.
Since Stella's abrupt departure after witnessing Darwin caring for Lilian at the hospital, Fiona hadn't crossed paths with her.
Stella's complexion was pallid, and she seemed utterly worn out.
"Long time no see," Stella murmured softly, then gestured towards the ICU. "Wyatt's in there. The doctor said it's a head injury."
At that, Stella's emotions overwhelmed her, and tears began to flow.
"It's my fault. I insisted he return immediately after work. If Wyatt had returned the next morning, none of this would have happened!"
Fiona knew of the past romance between Stella and Wyatt.
She wasn't aware of when Stella and Wyatt had reconciled.
Approaching Stella, Fiona offered comfort. "Try not to blame yourself too much. The doctors are doing everything they can to save him. Mr. Durham has accomplished so much good; surely he'll pull through."
Stella continued to sob, her distress evident.
Stella had always exuded either vivacity or charm. This was the first time Fiona had witnessed Stella in such a state of panic.
Soon, the medical team Darwin had arranged for began to arrive, one after the other.
Additionally, Darwin urgently procured a medical device, the only one of its kind in the country, from the capital city, to prolong Wyatt's life.
After 48 critical hours, the medical team breathed a collective sigh of relief, announcing that Wyatt was out of danger.
However, when Wyatt would regain consciousness remained uncertain.
Over the past few days, Fiona had returned home twice, while Darwin remained at Wyatt's side in the hospital.
"Darwin, I've taken care of everything. Once Wyatt's condition stabilizes a bit, we'll transfer him to our hospital. You should go home now and get some rest. Charles and Chicago asked this morning if Dad would be coming home today."
Darwin's eyes were slightly red.
"Fiona, you've worked hard."
"Don't mention it. You go home and rest. I'll go check on Stella."
Darwin furrowed his brow slightly. "If Stella attempts to interfere and disrupt our relationship again..."
Fiona smiled. "Why do you still dwell on those things? Stella can't intervene. Now, off you go!"
Fiona gently nudged Darwin.
As Darwin left, Fiona headed to Wyatt's room and found Stella, who had been keeping vigil by Wyatt's side.
"You're here," Stella greeted, looking visibly better and finally displaying a hint of a smile.
Seating herself across from Stella, Fiona smiled and glanced at Wyatt.
"Have you two patched things up?" Fiona inquired.
Stella's expression turned somewhat awkward. "We haven't exactly reconciled. It's a complicated relationship. As for you, when you faked your death, it threw everything into chaos for me. Darwin pursued me relentlessly for two or three years, insisting that if it weren't for me, you wouldn't have died. Although I don't grasp the reasoning behind it, Darwin isn't one to act irrationally without cause. I felt guilty for a long time and even sought therapy!"
Stella didn't have many friends, and considered Fiona to be one of them, but her mischievous actions led to Fiona disappearing without a trace.
Stella's mental state was in turmoil.
Every day, she had to evade Darwin, making sure he didn't catch her.
"I'm sorry. I was desperate back then," Fiona apologized, her expression guilty.
Stella waved her hand "I understand. Darwin is just irrational. He doesn't even have a clear understanding of his first love. His first love was a sham, but logically speaking, you should have been his first love!"
Fiona smiled but didn't respond to Stella's remark. "Though belated by a few days, I'm still here. How have you been all these years?"
Shrugging, Stella glanced at Wyatt. "I had a falling out with my dad, so I stopped taking his money a long time ago. Can you guess what I'm doing for a living now?"
Stella raised an eyebrow at Fiona, as if anticipating her guess.
For some reason, Fiona's mind suddenly flashed back to the shocking images of nude men from the magazine she had seen years ago.
"You're not involved in that kind of business, are you?"
"What kind?" Stella queried.
"Nightclubs and male escorts," Fiona whispered, lowering her voice, as if wary of Wyatt overhearing.
Upon hearing her words, Stella burst into laughter. "You still remember that? Hahaha, no. I'm engaged in legitimate business—medical aesthetics and high-end nail salons!"
Stella concluded, proudly gesturing a number with her hand. "At Armie alone, I have three major medical aesthetics centers and twelve nail salons. Business is thriving! Though it may not compare to yours, I earn far more than what my unreliable father gives me annually. Spending money I've earned myself feels much more satisfying."
"Congratulations on finding your path," Fiona said genuinely. "I also wish you success in love."
Stella's face flushed immediately, and she appeared slightly uncomfortable.
"Your children must be adorable! When can I meet them? They must be brilliant, unlike me," she quipped.
