Chapter 1457

The next day.

Darwin met up with Xavier.

Xavier had been on the mend for a few months, but his injuries were so severe that he probably wouldn't ever be back to his old self physically.

He didn't meet the standards to work at Emerald Pool anymore, but Fiona decided to keep him on.When Xavier saw Darwin, he was overwhelmed with emotion.

No one had told him about Darwin's situation, but Xavier was one of the first to notice something was off with Darwin.

Especially that day when Darwin stabbed him, his demeanor and the vibe he gave off were completely different from his usual self.

So, Xavier understood that the person who tried to kill him wasn't his boss.

"Mr. Solomon, I should've been more cautious back then," Xavier said, feeling guilty. "I should've told Mrs. Solomon when I first noticed something was wrong."

"You almost died by my hand, and you're still blaming yourself?" Darwin said, a bit helplessly. "Xavier, I'm just glad you made it."

Xavier's eyes reddened.

"Don't worry about the future. I'll keep you by my side."

Xavier was taken aback.

He sensed a change in Darwin, but it was different from the change when Darwin had completely lost his memory.

Darwin's gaze seemed to have a warmth that wasn't there before.

In the past, Darwin wouldn't keep anyone around unless they were 100% useful to him.

At most, he would give them a large sum of money—more than they could ever earn in a lifetime—and send them home.

"Mr. Solomon, I'll work hard!" Xavier said immediately.

He was already very satisfied with this outcome.

He had no family, and without Darwin, he had nowhere to go.

Living alone with a sum of money, Xavier would rather choose to face life and death with his friends!

But shortly after Darwin left, Xavier received a huge sum of money in his account, marked as compensation for his injury.

Xavier rushed to find Fiona and Darwin. He was already satisfied with being able to stay and work; the compensation was far more than he expected!

Christopher stopped him. "Can't you see? Mr. Solomon feels indebted to you for nearly dying because of him. Take the money, and that debt is settled."

Xavier paused and realized Christopher was right.

Mike, with one leg in a cast, was lounging in Charlotte's hammock, making the beams creak.

"Xavier, you better watch out. Christopher seems a lot smarter than you now."

"Of course, being around Mrs. Solomon, how could he not be smart?" Xavier paused. "Except for you, Mike. You've been with Mrs. Solomon longer than any of us!"

"Are you calling me dumb in a roundabout way?" Mike retorted. "I'm a foreigner; I don't get all your American subtleties! Can't learn them!"

"Strictly speaking, my father just has an American appearance; he grew up abroad," Charlotte said, poking her head over the railing from the second floor.

Mike looked up. "Charlotte, you don't get it. That kind of ability is in your DNA! It's a racial trait, you know?"

Without a word, Charlotte jumped down from the second floor.

Christopher sighed. "Charlotte, didn't we agree to change the way you come downstairs? What kind of little girl jumps down like that?"

Charlotte was holding a completed worksheet.

"It's fine at home," Charlotte waved her hand and then looked at Mike. "Lazy and unthinking, blaming DNA!"

Mike was speechless.

"Father, I'm heading over there," Charlotte said to Christopher.
