Chapter 1210
"Alright," Fiona nodded, feeling too drained to say much more.
The attending physician let out a visible sigh of relief when he heard Fiona had contacted Hubert. As he left the ward, his steps seemed a bit lighter.
Fiona walked back over to Darwin and adjusted his blanket. "How's Xavier doing?"
Christopher jumped in, "They finished resuscitation, and he's in the ICU now. The next day or two will be critical."
Xavier wasn't someone Fiona knew well. "Can we get in touch with his family?"
Mike and Christopher exchanged looks. Christopher said, "Chelsea, Xavier's an orphan. Mr. Solomon saved him from the ring ages ago; he doesn't have any family."
Fiona was a bit taken aback, vaguely recalling Darwin mentioning it before. A wave of sadness washed over her.
"Christopher, stay here and keep an eye on him for me. I'm going to check on him," Fiona said.
"Chelsea, you should rest first," Mike suggested, concerned.
Fiona waved her hand. Even if she lay down, she knew she wouldn't be able to sleep.
Mike ended up going with Fiona to the ICU to see Xavier. When the attending physician saw Fiona, he came over too.
"Thank you for all your hard work," Fiona said gratefully. "He's like family to my husband and me. So, if there's even a tiny chance, use whatever special meds or machines you need. I just want him to make it."
"Don't worry, we're following your instructions to the letter," the attending physician reassured her. "The patient's will to survive is strong. I think his chances are pretty good."
Fiona looked through the glass window. "Yeah, he's always had a strong will to survive. He'll pull through."
Xavier had survived the brutal ring and countless dangers by Darwin's side. This time wouldn't be any different.
Fiona didn't stay long, not wanting to add pressure on the medical staff. After thanking them again, she left.
On the way back, she said, "Mike, get me something sweet," and found an outdoor bench to sit on.
The hospital's dessert stand had some really good treats, and Mike knew it too. Though a bit worried, he quickly ran to the dessert shop a few meters away.
As soon as he left, Kenny called.
Fiona answered quickly, "Kenny, did you find anything?"
"Yeah," Kenny replied. "Fiona, that accident was super suspicious, but there's no evidence linking Brooke directly or indirectly."
Fiona was about to sigh in relief when Kenny continued, "But in the months before the incident, Aldrich met with Brooke several times, and those meetings didn't end well. After Aldrich and his wife passed away, Brooke didn't attend the funeral or even call to express condolences."
Brooke was someone who always followed strict principles. She'd visit even her competitors if they passed away. Unless their relationship had completely soured, she wouldn't have skipped the funeral.
