Chapter 794 Quoting Scriptures
Eleanor spoke as she placed her hands on the edge of the fence as if she was about to climb over.
"No!" Chicago shouted.
"You can't die like this; you can't change who you are!!"
Stuart hurried to the scene. Just then, Chicago said this.
Eleanor turned back in horror. "Why?"
"Haven't you read the Bible?" Chicago asked.
Eleanor shook her head blankly. Her daily life consisted of various training classes and tests, and she had never watched an animation. Her mother didn't allow her to play with other kids.
This led her to develop the isolated personality she has now.
She had no idea what the Bible was.
"The Bible says that life is considered sacred and inviolable. Therefore, suicide is often seen as a violation of the sacred principle of life and is believed to lead to hell." Chicago explained urgently.
However, Chicago couldn't remember the description of hell in the Bible.
Seeing this, Stuart quickly supplemented by describing hell in great detail, full of pain and wailing.
Chicago was dumbfounded.
Eleanor was, too.
After Stuart finished, Eleanor's legs went weak, and her slender body slid to the ground, burying her head in her knees, crying loudly. "I don't want to go to hell, but what should I do? If I don't do as my mom says today, she will beat me when I get back!"
"Does she often hit you?" Chicago approached slowly.
Seeing that Eleanor seemed to have no intention of jumping off anymore, Chicago sat down beside her.
Eleanor didn't speak but rolled up her shirt sleeves.
Previously, Chicago had heard other kids teasing Eleanor, saying it was strange that she wore long sleeves when it was so hot.
Now she finally understood why Eleanor wore long sleeves.
Her slender arms were covered in bruises.
Stuart took a glance and immediately recognized some old wounds from the cane and fresh pinch marks.
"Is this all from your mom?" Stuart asked angrily.
Stuart was already fierce-looking. At this moment, he was even more out of control.
Eleanor shrank timidly and nodded.
"Sh*t!" Stuart cursed.
"Uncle Stuart, you can only curse once. You can't use too many swear words in front of kids," Chicago said seriously.
Stuart's chest heaved with anger.
"With a mother like yours, it's better not to have one at all! I have money, I can sponsor your education, and I don't care how well you perform academically; happiness comes first!" Stuart said.
Eleanor glanced at Stuart.
Then she buried her head again. At first, she just whimpered softly, but then her shoulders started shaking violently, and her crying grew louder.
Eleanor thought, 'No one cared about me. My family didn't care for me. My classmates thought I was a strange loner. I always worried that people's gazes were mocking me.'
This was the first time someone had said such things to her.
Around the same time, several teachers and the principal hurried to the rooftop.
"Eleanor!" The principal's voice trembled.
"Principal, it's okay; we're just chatting." Chicago was worried that Eleanor's behavior would result in her expulsion.
The principal ran up, his wig slightly askew.
He took a couple of breaths.
"Is... is that so? It's too hot here, so let's not chat here. Shall we go to my office? Eleanor, you haven't had lunch yet, have you? My wife cooked lunch, so why don't you have some with me? It's delicious!" The principal said.
Chicago swallowed nervously.
Stuart remained silent.
Not long after, the principal took Eleanor away.
The teachers didn't say much, but as they left, they all gave Chicago a thumbs up.
"Miss, you're amazing! You know how to quote scriptures!" After everyone left, Stuart also gave Chicago a thumbs up.
Chicago looked at him. "Uncle Stuart, quoting scriptures isn't used like that!"
"Isn't it? Didn't you just quote the Bible?" Stuart asked.
Chicago thought for a moment. "Oh..."
She vaguely felt that something was off.
But she couldn't quite put her finger on it and felt that Stuart made a lot of sense.
"Oh no! I've been gone for so long; Dad and Janna must be worried!" Chicago said, getting up and pulling Stuart along, rushing downstairs.
Halfway there, they ran into Janna and Darwin.
"Sorry!" Chicago immediately apologized.
"Chicago, you run fast!" Janna chuckled. "Where's your classmate?"
Chicago swallowed nervously, "She's having lunch with the principal."
Seeing this, Janna burst into laughter and turned to Darwin. "Your daughter is hungry!"
Darwin's previously gloomy expression changed.
He reached out to Chicago.
Chicago happily bounced over and took Darwin's hand.
"If you want to eat, Dad will have the chefs at home prepare something for you later."
"Yeah!" Chicago nodded vigorously.
Darwin looked at his daughter, who had just experienced something so upsetting yet remained so
lively and felt a mix of emotions.
"Chicago is really good." Darwin said as he squeezed her hand. "When we get back, I'll tell your mommy, she will definitely be proud of you!"
"No, she won't." Chicago shook her head. "If Mommy knew there are such bad moms in the world, she would be sad."
The smile on Janna's face faded a bit.
She had thought that Chicago would take a long time to step out of the ivory tower they had built for her.
She didn't expect her to be so young and had already witnessed one of the dirty aspects of the human world.
After the lunch break, Chicago went back to class as usual.
Darwin stayed behind to handle the aftermath, and Janna decided to go back first to attend to her matters.
"Don't be too harsh, but don't let her off too easily either." before getting into the car, Janna reminded Darwin.
Darwin nodded gently. "I understand, Grandma."
Janna got into the car.
Not in a hurry to go home, she had the driver head to the supermarket.
If Chicago wanted to eat something delicious, she had to arrange it immediately, right?
Stuart answered a call, he reminded Darwin, "the crazy woman's husband is here."
Darwin's expression turned cold and indifferent in a split second.
Stuart looked at him and, for a moment, had the illusion that Darwin had returned to his former self.
"What happened on the top floor just now?" Darwin asked in a gentle tone.
Stuart sighed inwardly.
So polite, this wasn't the old Darwin.
Stuart roughly explained the situation.
Darwin was extremely shocked.
Chicago had actually dissuaded Eleanor from jumping off with a quote from the Bible.
"Hehe, our miss is really smart!" Stuart said proudly, straightening his back.
