Hubert had no clue his birthday surprise wasn't just a blood-smeared cake but also a trip to an island.
"That night, I cried like never before," Hubert told Fiona, his eyes red but steady. "I stayed home and didn't eat or drink for two days. On the third day, I flew to Armie and saw Grandma Mitchell for the second time."
When he finally met Brooke after letting go of everything, Hubert noticed she was super anxious.
Brooke didn't try to hide it.
"Darwin found out about his background," she said, her voice shaking. "When he confronted me, I was so scared I slapped him."
Brooke added, "Hubert, you know, right? Adien died because of me. I thought I could change and raise a normal kid. But now I see the problem is me. I'm scared Darwin will end up the same way!"
"Medicine's way better now, Hubert. Tell me, is that genetic disease your dad mentioned real? I've been so worried about this that I secretly looked into the Mitchell family's close relatives." A deep fear crossed Brooke's face.
She found out that over the past few decades, at least four close relatives had suffered from mental illness and died because of it.
Earlier records were impossible to trace.
Hubert knew Brooke didn't want comfort then, and he shouldn't lie.
Before coming here, Hubert took the key from his suitcase and opened Aldrich's safe deposit box at a certain bank.
He took out Aiden's medical records and files, which included the genetic maps of Aiden and Brooke.
He spread the maps out in front of Brooke.
