Chapter 341 Slip Up

Before Kenny could react, Thalassa squatted in front of the tombstone. "Dad, for your new house, I'll lay out the pictures in this order: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Take a look, see which one you like, and I'll draw lots for you in a bit."

In her heart, Thalassa knew that whichever one her dad chose would be great.

After showing her dad the pictures, Thalassa opened a lottery-drawing app.

Kenny was surprised. "There's an app for that?"

"Charles wrote the code for it," Thalassa replied. "Sometimes, when we can't agree on something, we use it to make a decision."

As she was talking, she glanced at her dad’s grave. "Dad, I'll give you five more seconds, so think carefully."

Kenny thought Thalassa was being very cute.

In the end, the app selected plot number 1.

Thalassa read the description. "You really have great taste, Dad!" She gave a thumbs up.

Then, she turned to Kenny and showed him her phone, exclaiming, “Dad chose plot number 1!”

"I'll have it arranged right away," Kenny said, reaching out and taking her hand quite naturally, then waving to her father. "We're going to help you move, Dad. Go ahead and say your goodbyes to the neighbors, and once everything's ready, we'll pick a good day to move in!"

After the move, the Shaw family would never be able to bother her father again. That was what Thalassa thought as she walked back with Kenny.

When they arrived at the cemetery's plaza, Thalassa spotted the police cars in the crowd from afar. Her expression immediately darkened.

"That's him!" Justin saw them from a distance and immediately pointed at Kenny, shouting.

"Kenny..." Thalassa looked at Kenny, concerned.

"It's nothing." Kenny smiled reassuringly at her.

Soon, both groups merged.

Thalassa noticed that Chris and Shawn were missing.

"Officer, this man broke my son's arm!" Justin pointed at Kenny, then turned to Thalassa. "And she's an accomplice!"

Maria, who was following behind Justin, looked up in shock. "Justin! Thalassa’s a victim too. How could you call her an accomplice?"

Justin acted as if he hadn't heard. "Arrest them already!"

"What's going on here? Did you really break that guy's hand?" the officer asked Kenny sternly.

"Yeah," Kenny nodded and explained, "When I was heading up earlier, I ran into these guys. They started hurling insults at my wife. She tried to diffuse the situation by leaving, but the guy started to move toward her, and I blocked him instinctively. Next thing I knew, his hand was broken. You can check the nearby surveillance cameras. They’ve got it all on tape.”

Unlike Justin, who was being hysterical and acting crazy, Kenny spoke reasonably and with proper decorum. He appeared to be much more reliable than Justin.

"Officer, that’s my daughter. We're just a family here. You should arrest him. My daughter is innocent. She's been deceived and misled by that man!" Maria cried.

"Shut up!" Justin barked at Maria in a low voice.

Startled, Maria shivered.

She then looked at Thalassa, her eyes brimming with a plea.

A plea for what? Thalassa didn't understand. What could she possibly beg for at this point?

Did she want to throw Kenny under the bus to ease Justin's rage? Was he even worthy of that?

"So, you think you're the only one who knows to check the surveillance? Right after heading down, we immediately contacted the cemetery. They said the cameras were all broken! But my son has gone for a medical assessment. They’ll find your fingerprints on his wrist! There's no escape for you, you violent thug!"

"Broken?"

Kenny laughed, as if he had heard a big joke.

When Justin saw Kenny laugh, he interpreted it differently. He thought the brute was finally panicking.

The cameras weren't broken, but Justin had greased some palms to take care of this problem.

"Excuse me, I need to make a call," Kenny said to the officers as he pulled out his cell phone.

When he returned, he was as calm as ever. "Please bear with me for a moment," he told them politely.

"Officer, arrest him! He's just stalling for time!" Justin urged impatiently.

"What's the hurry? We’ll review the footage first," the officer replied.

"There is no footage!" Justin said, frustrated.

He was in a rush to get the issue resolved before Thalassa's well-connected friend could intervene and help turn things around.

As though on cue, a car pulled up to the curb with a screech just a few minutes later. An overweight man rushed toward them in a hurry.

"Our boss is here!" one of the orderlies announced.

When Justin saw him, he perked up. This was the guy he had paid off.

"Thalassa, we raised you like royalty, and this is how you repay us? By picking up some nobody? I..."

Before Justin could finish, the cemetery owner shouted, "Which one of you is Mr. Walker?"
Justin froze. The Walker name seemed to spark a memory of someone with a short fuse...

"I’m right here."

Kenny lifted his hand nonchalantly, exuding an aura of prestige.

"Sorry for the inconvenience!" the shop owner mopped the sweat from his brow. "You're looking for footage from the cameras at the three-way junction, right? I’ll have my tech guy get it immediately!"

"Didn’t you say the cameras were broken?" the officer asked sternly.

The shop owner’s face flared up in indignation. "That really pissed me off! I was in the middle of a card game when some jerk called me out of nowhere and ordered me to delete the footage from the junction, then told me to lie and say that the cameras were down! Before I could even process it, the money was transferred to my account!"

Justin's face turned to stone.

"Heh, doesn’t that mean you got the evidence indirectly? Isn’t that right, Officer Lee?" The shop owner turned back, chuckling at the cops.

"You two, retrieve the footage," Officer Lee ordered the guys behind him, then turned to Justin, "So, who paid to erase the footage?"

"Was it you, honey?"

Justin suddenly turned to Maria.

Maria was dumbfounded.

"Didn't I say it was him who threw the punch? It was all his fault. What was the point of doing all that?"

Maria’s body went rigid.

Justin looked at her, pleading with her and warning her at the same time.

Was he... asking her to take the fall?

But she had no idea about any footage that had been deleted...

"Who’s Maria?" the shop owner held up his phone, "That’s the one who sent me the money!"

Maria was shocked once more.

She looked at Justin in disbelief. he grabbed her arm and shielded her behind him, "Sorry, sorry. It’s just a woman’s ignorance. It’s fortunate that the owner stands for justice. If this scheme had worked..."

Thalassa listened to Justin’s self-righteous chastisement of Maria in disbelief.

His gaze fell on Maria, who was bewildered and panicked.

Thalassa's father had cherished her for the first half of her life, and later, she had become the lady of luxury in the Shaw family.

Had she ever faced such an ordeal?

"Don’t say too much. She’s already under suspicion for obstruction of justice. She needs to come with us."
