Chapter 1453

Janna's voice was just loud enough for Fiona to catch.

Fiona burst out laughing. "Grandma, are you jealous?"

Janna snorted. "Just stating the facts. You didn't see how your daughter was just now, all worried I'd scold her dad. That little ingrate!"

Fiona squeezed in next to Janna, still chuckling. "Oh really? Then I'll have a word with her later. How could she forget how awesome her grandma is just because of her dad? I'll punish her by not letting her have dinner tonight!"

Janna immediately glared at her. "You wouldn't dare!"

Fiona laughed so hard she leaned against Janna.

Janna looked exasperated, trying to put on a stern face as she lightly patted Fiona's arm. "You know you can't discipline her, but you can't bear to!"

"You're just taking advantage of me!" Janna shook her head, then held Fiona's hand, gently stroking the back of it. She looked up at Darwin. "I won't compete with you kids for affection. No matter what happened between you in the past, I just hope you live a happy life together from now on."

Darwin nodded seriously. "Grandma, don't worry."

Janna had a thousand worries.

But this path was chosen by her beloved granddaughter Fiona. No matter how worried she was, there was nothing she could do.

"Alright, I'm going to change clothes. You two check on when dinner will be ready." Janna clapped her hands on her thighs and stood up. Her gaze instinctively went to the large floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room.

Because Melissa was learning to walk.

She also liked to crawl around.

When Darwin renovated the place, he hadn't considered the needs of a child, so the house wasn't entirely safe for a baby.

So, Janna had someone clear out that area and set up a playpen.

It was a large space, made to look like a mini fairytale kingdom.

Right now, Chicago and Melissa were inside.

The two sisters looked carefree, laughing heartily.

Janna watched them.

Her heart was filled with contentment.

In recent years, Janna increasingly felt that her life had been worthwhile.

When she was young, she was competitive, determined to make the Rhoads Group stand at an unattainable peak.

Later, her marriage failed, her son was a disappointment, and she found herself at the top of a lonely mountain, feeling lost.

For a long time, she didn't know what she was fighting so hard for.

She had status, and more money than she could spend.

But Janna always felt an emptiness inside.

When she discovered that Jane had been wronged by her, that feeling peaked.

It was then that Janna began to think about stepping down.

It was also then that she found Fiona.

And she realized what she had been fighting for.

What else could it be?

It was just this scene before her.

She was the towering mountain, shielding the little children from countless storms, allowing them to laugh and play without worries.

Janna, full of love, withdrew her gaze and turned back to her room.

As soon as Janna left, Darwin immediately sat down next to Fiona.

"Grandma didn't say anything harsh, did she?" Fiona asked.
