Chapter 733 Poison Him
Gray had been busy all afternoon and had a headache, so she came back to rest. In a daze, she heard some noise outside and got up to see what it was. When she came out, she saw her daughter closing the door. Then she noticed that Darwin, who should have been upstairs, was sitting in the small flower hall.
"What's going on?" Gray asked, "Blaise, did you run out?"
"Mom, he went out with me. It's so lively outside. He wanted to see how our people celebrate," Aura quickly explained.
Cyrus remained silent. He carefully pondered Darwin's condition. Not only was his pulse weakening, but there also seemed to be signs of poisoning.
"Then why did you close the door?" Gray asked.
"Jessica suddenly ran in just now, almost seeing Blaise. She has seen Darwin before." Aura lowered her eyelids, her legs weak, and her heart still trembling with fear.
Gray's expression tightened. "Jessica?"
"Yes, but Jessica probably didn't see anything. Cyrus and I reacted quickly," Aura spoke, glancing timidly at Darwin.
Darwin's eyelids drooped halfway, lost in thought. Aura knew exactly what he was thinking. Was he thinking about Fiona, that fickle woman? Why was he still hung up on her? Just because she was prettier? Aura felt suffering.
"Blaise, you look exhausted. Take your medication for tonight and get some rest," Gray said to Darwin lovingly.
"We won't take the medication tonight. After leaving the island, we'll go to the hospital for a check-up before deciding whether to take the medication," Cyrus suddenly said.
Gray furrowed her brows. "His condition is so poor; he's relying on your medication. How can he not take it? I've already prepared it!"
"If he doesn't want to take it, he won't!" Cyrus suddenly got angry.
Darwin lifted his gaze toward Cyrus.
"I'll help you rest," Cyrus spoke and helped Darwin up, leading him upstairs.
He remained silent on his way upstairs.
After laying Darwin in bed, Cyrus turned to leave.
"Did Gray poison me?" Darwin's voice came from behind him.
Cyrus froze on the spot.
Darwin continued, "The taste of the medication these past few days has been off."
"If you knew it was off. Why did you still drink it?" Cyrus turned around to look at Darwin. "Do you want to die?"
In Darwin's mind, the image suddenly appeared. A woman holding flowers, her face filled with sorrow, tears streaming down.
"I don't want to die anymore."
"You really wanted to die before? Why?" Cyrus was incredibly shocked.
"I've always remembered that there was someone I loved, but she seemed to not love me and was afraid of me. She didn't love me even when I was in a good state. Now that things have turned out like this, she'll despise me even more and definitely won't love me. So, what's the point of living?"
Cyrus couldn't understand his thoughts, but he was deeply shaken. He wanted to die because she didn't love him?
"But life isn't just about love. There are so many other things you can do. Life is long. You can find new love!" Cyrus said urgently.
He had never, never once wanted Darwin to die.
"I wouldn't find it. Even without my memories, my heart always reminded me that I only had the ability to love one person and wouldn't love anyone else."
That was why Darwin felt desperate.
That was why Darwin thought it useless to continue.
"Why do you not want to die now?" Cyrus asked.
Suddenly, Darwin's forehead started throbbing with pain.
Cyrus immediately turned back and said, "All right, stop overthinking. I won't let my mother hurt you anymore."
Darwin didn't say anything.
Cyrus brought him a glass of water and placed it by the bedside.
After a moment of silence, Cyrus continued, "Once we leave the island, I will find a way to do everything I can to cure you. Afterward, you can decide freely whether to stay or go. Be cautious about self-preservation now, as Aura and my mother are acting strangely."
After finishing his words, Cyrus didn't wait for Darwin's response and left quickly.
As he walked downstairs, Gray was comforting Aura.
"If I had found out any later, he would've gone to Fiona's side. Mom, I almost lost Blaise!" Aura hugged her mother, crying with great sadness and frustration.
Cyrus watched.
Actually, just now, when Fiona was praying.
Cyrus was wearing a mask and standing behind the stand where she held the flowers.
Cyrus clearly saw that Fiona was praying devoutly, with tears streaming down her face.
At a glimpse, Cyrus knew what she was praying for.
She was praying for her beloved to return to her and their kids as soon as possible.
What exactly was Aura crying about?
Aura had taken someone else's husband and father for herself, so what on earth was she feeling sorry for?
Within Cyrus' heart, he felt a heavy burden of guilt and torment from witnessing Fiona's tears and knowing that Darwin had almost given up on life.
"Mom, come with me. I have something to ask you," Cyrus said, his throat dry.
Gray seemed to have guessed that Cyrus wanted to talk to her.
After consoling Aura for a few moments, she followed Cyrus to the kitchen.
In the kitchen, Darwin's medicine for the night was being prepared.
Cyrus picked it up directly and poured it on the floor.
"Cyrus, be careful not to burn yourself!" Gray hurriedly went forward to pull him.
Cyrus didn't move.
He picked up a pair of chopsticks and fished around in the medicine residue.
There were a few missing pills and an additional herb not mentioned in the prescription, the blood-withered vine.
It was a poisonous vine found on the island.
Someone on the island had consumed it before and ended up partially paralyzed. His father specifically took out this herb to teach him and his mother about it.
"This herb is very similar to another blood tonic herb. You have to remember it well and not confuse the two. It can be fatal!"
"Mom?" Cyrus stood up.
Cyrus looked at Gray in disbelief.
In his impression, his mother had always been a gentle and kind person.
"Yes, I put it in," Gray said expressionlessly, devoid of her usual gentleness and kindness. "Don't you see that Darwin wants to leave? Even if he doesn't follow Fiona, once he recovers from his injuries after leaving the island, he will abandon Aura and leave!"
"So you want to turn him into a helpless invalid?" Cyrus' hands shook desperately.
He didn't understand.
Why did Darwin turn his sister into a paranoid love addict and turn his mother into such a cruel person?
"Your sister has finally moved on from the pain of losing her father. Aura cannot lose Blaise, and she won't be able to go on without him," Gray said without hesitation, "I love you and Aura deeply. Protecting you and making you happy is my duty! I can do anything for you!"
Cyrus felt a wrenching pain in his heart.
"I was wrong. I should have returned Darwin to Fiona from the beginning. I shouldn't have selfishly brought him back. I caused the separation of a husband and wife and the children not being able to see their father. Now, the retribution has come. My sister and mother have turned into devils because of my selfishness!" "
