Chapter 1424
"Why bring that up?" Fiona was so exhausted that she could barely keep her eyes open.
Darwin held her tight, nuzzling her neck. "Honey, you're so heartless, you haven't come to see me."
"I did see you," Fiona replied patiently, knowing Darwin was just restless and acting out.
"You only saw me, but didn't let me see you."
"If I weren't firm, who knows how long I'd have to wait for you to come back." Fiona gently stroked Darwin's cheek. "Hubby, let's talk about this tomorrow, I'm too tired right now."
Darwin loved it when Fiona called him "hubby."
Just hearing it made his heart melt.
"Okay," Darwin agreed obediently.
Soon, Darwin heard Fiona's breathing become steady as she fell asleep in his arms.
Since Darwin had been discharged from the hospital, he had been feeling a bit uneasy.
He was worried that Fiona might be afraid of him, becauseshe knew how Marisole had died.
So, having Fiona sleep peacefully in his arms at this moment helped calm his anxious heart.
Unable to sleep, Darwin occasionally kissed Fiona.
After several rounds of this, Darwin eventually drifted off to sleep as well.
The next day, they both slept in until after ten.
They got up together, squeezed into their small bathroom to freshen up, and decided to go out for breakfast at a restaurant Fiona used to love.
After a hearty meal, they went to the grocery store together to buy fresh fruits and ingredients.
Back home, the plan was to watch a movie.
Fiona had picked out two exciting sci-fi films.
But less than twenty minutes into the first movie, they somehow ended up undressed, completely forgetting about the film.
The fresh ingredients they bought were left unused, and they ordered takeout for dinner instead.
After dinner, before their walk, Fiona video-called Chicago and Charles.
Chicago and Charles, who used to cry for two days straight whenever they were away from Fiona, had changed significantly.
Chicago had kept himself very busy over the past two days.
He finished his unfinished drawings, took Jessie for a bath and a check-up, and helped Stuart record the growth of the garden's plants this year.
In contrast, Charles had a simpler schedule.
He had been working on his assignments; two days of non-stop studying.
After hanging up the video call, Fiona looked at Darwin. "It seems we can plan more time for just the two of us. Charles and Chicago aren't as dependent on me as I thought."
Fiona bit her lip.
The fact that her kids were becoming less reliant on her made her feel a bit sad.
"But maybe it's me who can't be without them," Fiona's eyes welled up with tears.
Darwin hugged her, kissed her cheek, and gently comforted her. "It's okay, I'll depend on you forever, and I'll make sure you can depend on me too."
Fiona looked at him.
Their eyes met, and they shared a long, tender kiss.
