Chapter 1220
Fiona gently touched Darwin's cheek. "I checked the weather forecast. It's gonna be perfect those days, with great temperatures. This time, you can take Charles with you to the creek to catch some little crabs. He missed out last time and was super jealous of Chicago for ages."
"I don't remember," Darwin said, looking a bit regretful.
"It's okay, you'll remember this time." Fiona kissed Darwin's palm.
Darwin had slept for a long time, but he still felt really tired.
His gentle gaze fell on Fiona. "Why did I fall into the lake?"
"Just an accident," Fiona replied.
"I'll stay away from dangerous places from now on." Darwin gently rubbed Fiona's hand with his thumb. "I'm sorry, I always make you worry."
"It's okay," Fiona said, forcing a smile.
She had originally wanted to ask about Aiden.
Fiona thought it over. If Darwin hadn't been really troubled by Aiden's situation, he wouldn't have had such hallucinations.
But she was also worried that asking might bring up bad memories for Darwin and make things worse.
So she didn't mention it.
After that, Fiona and Darwin had dinner together and took a walk in the hospital at sunset. The camellias on both sides of the path were in full bloom.
Darwin held Fiona's hand tightly the whole time, never letting go.
The medical staff who didn't know the situation watched from afar, and everyone envied Darwin and Fiona's tumultuous journey that ultimately brought them together.
Fiona felt those envious gazes. Suddenly, she felt that she and Darwin were like a shiny and beautiful apple that was rotten and worm-eaten inside.
They walked until nightfall.
Darwin suddenly said, "Honey, I want to go home."
Fiona's nose stung sharply. "No, you still need to stay in the hospital for observation. We can go home tomorrow. What? Missing Chicago and Charles?"
Darwin nodded. "Yeah."
Fiona's heart ached.
But she still smiled. "Then just bear with it for one more night."
Darwin was a bit dejected but agreed.
Back in the ward, Fiona coaxed Darwin into taking his medicine.
Darwin held her hand, confirming several times that she wouldn't leave at night, before finally closing his heavy eyelids.
After Darwin fell asleep, Fiona couldn't control her tears, which silently rolled down her cheeks.
Her phone vibrated. It was a message from Ashton.
Ashton: [Is Darwin asleep? Come downstairs, I brought you something good!]
Fiona wiped away her tears, composed herself, and told Christopher to keep a good watch.
Then, she went downstairs.
Once downstairs, Fiona saw Ashton holding Melissa.
Children did change day by day; Melissa had grown quite a bit. Her arms and legs looked strong and powerful.
Seeing Fiona, she waved her little hands and kicked her legs energetically, laughing happily.
The scene was incredibly heartwarming.
