Chapter 1428
Hubert said, "The first time I saw you, you were taking care of your drunk mom. The person Brooke had placed by my side told me all about your mom's situation. Coincidentally, I was researching how parents impact their kids' personality development at the time. Your rough background made you a perfect subject for my study."
"Subject?" Rose was so stunned she forgot to plead, staring blankly at Hubert.
"Yeah, like a lab rat, but you had a much higher status. After all, I gave you love and tolerance, letting you grow up healthy and wealthy by my side. So, you were more like a spoiled pet. A good owner always shows extra favoritism and affection for their pet. That's why, when you messed up, I could always smile and let it slide. But..."
The hint of a smile in Hubert's eyes vanished instantly.
"A pet can't show its fangs to its owner, let alone bite them." He sneered again, but this time it made Rose feel even more terrified.
"Hubert, you're lying!" Rose shook her head desperately.
All these years, Rose had lived happily, relying on Hubert's affection for her.
It seemed that no matter how outrageous her actions were, Hubert would always smile and say it was okay, just be careful next time.
Now, he was telling her that he never even saw her as a person.
How could Rose accept that?
If Hubert didn't see her as a person, then no one in this world loved her.
"Don't say things like that. It'll break my heart, it really will!" Rose cried pitifully, even more pitiful than when Hubert first saw her, bruised all over, huddled in a corner, sobbing.
"Heartbroken?" Hubert's tone softened slightly.
Rose clung to that bit of softness like a lifeline.
"Hubert, you're the most important person to me..."
But before Rose could finish, Hubert clicked his tongue. "You should be heartbroken. You've lived so many years without a single person who truly loves you. It's utterly pathetic, a complete failure."
Rose was in utter disbelief.
"How boring." Hubert ignored Rose's expression, stood up, and took a photo of the disheveled Rose with his phone. "Subject A02H, study duration: thirty-one years. Study officially concluded."
"Hubert!" Rose screamed.
"Next month, I'm attending a psychology conference. I'll be presenting your case study. Afterward, I'll have the dean show you the recording." Hubert glanced at the bright blue sky. "The sky here is so beautiful, unlike the constant gloom of Cyberia. Be good and enjoy your hellish remaining days here."
"No, no, no..." Rose's terror reached its peak in an instant.
