Chapter 870
"Excuse me," Alexander apologized.
Liam's expression was very complicated. He remained silent for a moment before asking, "How have you been?"
"Thank you for your concern. I'm fine," Alexander paused and said, "How about Father Thomas?"
Liam replied, "He's much better."
"That's good to hear." Alexander smiled and then gently exhaled. "You go on with your business. We'll leave first."
"The church's potluck is about to start. Why don't you stay and eat before you go?" Liam called out to the two as they were about to leave.
"Yeah, I'm hungry!" Stella hurriedly said.
After that, Alexander took Stella to the church.
Along the way, they occasionally passed some believers and a few passed children.
Stella looked as if she could see the carefree time Alexander had spent here in the past.
"I wonder what you owed me in the previous life. Saving my life has only brought disaster upon you," Stella muttered.
If Alexander hadn't rejoined society and continued to work and grow in the church, he wouldn't have so many troubles now.
"Don't be silly," Alexander squeezed her hand and said, "Returning to society was my choice. Don't blame yourself."
Stella remained silent.
They arrived at the church.
Stella and Alexander each grabbed a bit of food from the potluck.
They ate in a corner.
To be honest, Stella could understand why Alexander didn't like the church's food when he was young. It was indeed quite unappetizing.
"The church's cook hasn't changed." Alexander took a bite and laughed helplessly.
Seeing Alexander laugh made Stella feel a bit happier.
"I guess I've tasted the flavors of your childhood now, right?" she asked.
Alexander laughed even more heartily and said, "Why do you always have so many strange thoughts?"
"Don't you like them?" Stella blinked her big eyes.
Alexander nodded indulgently. "I do."
Alexander had anticipated it and ordered very little food.
As they chatted, they finished all the food.
Stella saw volunteers cleaning up the church and washing dishes. She volunteered to help.
Alexander didn't stop her and joined in.
After they finished, Stella sat with the volunteers, drank coffee, and asked about how to stay as a long-term volunteer.
Alexander overheard. He said a few words to the volunteers politely and then pulled Stella aside.
"Do you want to be a volunteer?" Alexander asked.
"Why not stay a few more days? The church is so big. What if we run into someone by chance?" Stella lowered her eyelids and muttered.
She knew Alexander wasn't a difficult person. Additionally, it was also out of guilt toward Father Thomas for Alexander. But if he let Stella leave with regrets like this, she wouldn't be satisfied either.
"We're not just here for a one-time visit." Alexander gently stroked Stella's cheek. "We'll come to visit often until Father Thomas agrees to see me."
"Really?" Stella's eyes lit up for a one-time visit.
"Yes." Alexander nodded. "So, do you still want to be a volunteer?"
"Yes!" Stella nodded eagerly. "I don't have anywhere else to go in the next few days anyway, so I'll stay in the church. You can show me around and share stories from your childhood, okay?"
