Chapter 1357

Fiona hardly ever got off work early.

On her way home, she picked up the kids.

Maybe it was because Wyatt had saved their lives, but Charles and Chicago got along super well with him.

They chatted non-stop, talking about everything under the sun.

When they got home, Wyatt went to chat with Janna for a bit. After dinner, he was eager to pull Charles aside to talk about his digital life.

Surprisingly, their ideas clicked right away.

They huddled around the computer, whispering for hours. Wyatt ended up crashing in the guest room that night.

Even though he was supposed to stay in the guest room, he was still hanging out in Charles's room when Fiona went to bed.

The next day, Kenny and Burl came back.

Fiona wasn't great with these things, and with the Solomon Group being super busy at the end of the year, she didn't get involved.

But according to Burl's updates, both he and Kenny thought this collaboration was totally doable.

The future was all about smart tech.

Grabbing this chance to get ahead in the market would be a big win for their chip business.

They had planned to wait for Fiona to come back for dinner.

But Burl and Wyatt couldn't wait and rushed to the research base.

Kenny wanted to spend more time with Ashton, have dinner, and stay the night.

Since Melissa was so young, Ashton, even though back at work, mostly worked remotely.

Luckily, with help from Kenny's mom and Fiona, Ashton had built a solid management team before giving birth. The company was running smoothly and doing great.

The land in the core area that Kenny gifted had already seen more than half of the building's construction progress.

Kenny had planned to be a full-time dad until Melissa turned one.

But because foreigners banned the Walker family from buying chips, Kenny decided to develop chips. Ashton had a heart-to-heart with him and convinced him to go back to work right away.

When Fiona got home from work, she washed her hands and started looking for the kids.

She found out the kids hadn't come back. Wyatt had picked up Charles, Chicago, and Charlotte after school.

Fiona called Burl, who kept apologizing on the other end.

Fiona exclaimed, "You guys are really out of control, making decisions without consulting me first!"

Burl said, "They wanted to come too, right, Chicago! Tell your mommy!"

Fiona was both angry and amused.

With the New Year holiday coming up, the kids were supposed to go to school tomorrow.

Now it was a mess.

Burl and Wyatt's tone suggested they didn't plan to bring the kids back for the whole holiday.

"Why did you take my daughter too?" Christopher asked, squatting by the garage door, frustrated after buying the dessert Charlotte had mentioned wanting yesterday.

The house suddenly felt empty with three kids gone.

It got quiet all of a sudden.

Fiona thought Melissa was still around.

But then Grandma Carey called, saying she felt unwell and had fainted after returning to her office from class.

Fiona didn't even have time to eat dinner.

She rushed over with Ashton and Melissa.

Aging was inevitable.

Too many things happened last year, and Grandma Carey's body and spirit took a big hit.

Since the beginning of winter this year, her health had been going downhill.

Fiona held Melissa, who was drooling and sleeping soundly on her shoulder.

Ashton came out of the doctor's office.

She didn't look good.

"What did they say?" Fiona asked softly.

Ashton looked at Fiona and said, "Lung cancer. Luckily, it was caught early, and we can intervene now."

Fiona replied, "Don't worry; we have plenty of medical resources. I'll call the experts to come up with the best treatment plan."

Ashton looked at the adorable Melissa and said, "Fiona, how did you get through losing one family member after another? I still haven't gotten over my mom's death. If my grandma also..."
