Chapter 1440
"Alright!" Gia said, glancing up at Darwin. "Your grandma was always worried about your love life. Now that you've found someone, she can finally relax."
Gia's voice wavered, as if she had touched on a tender memory. "Fiona finally has a family of her own now!"
The neighbors on Sesame Alley were a tight-knit bunch. Fiona had been a lively and adorable child, cherished by the elderly in the neighborhood. But the Woods family had faced one hardship after another. First, Carla left, then Joshua was ravaged by illness, and Aishah fell seriously ill and became confused. Fiona was left to hold the family together on her own.
When Aishah passed away, many old neighbors who had moved away returned to the alley. They didn't say anything in front of Fiona, but privately, they all worried about how she would manage on her own.
Gia was escorted home by Fiona, with Darwin trailing a bit behind. The old woman and the young girl walked with their heads close together, whispering.
"Is he good to you?" Gia asked. "I've seen on TV that rich men in those big families are often no good!"
"He's good, not like that," Fiona replied with a smile. "Don't worry, he knows how to behave."
"That's good. He needs to understand that in Serene City, men who respect their wives are the most successful. The more they respect their wives, the better they do."
Fiona nodded enthusiastically. "He knows that!"
"Good!" Gia continued to give advice as they walked. When they reached her door, she invited Fiona and Darwin to visit during the holidays, promising to have gifts ready for the kids.
On the way back, the weather changed suddenly, and a heavy rain began to pour without warning. Fiona grabbed Darwin's hand, and they ran home quickly, but they were still soaked by the time they reached their porch.
Once inside, Darwin closed the door and, while Fiona wasn't looking, turned off the doorbell notification. It was their last day of vacation, and they had a lot to do. They didn't need any interruptions.
In their room, Fiona took off her wet T-shirt and was about to put on a dry one when Darwin came over, pinning her against the wall. He took the T-shirt from her hand and tossed it aside. "Fiona, let's continue..."
With that, Darwin cupped Fiona's face, tilting her head back as he leaned in for a deep kiss.
The rain pounded on the awning outside their bedroom, and the sky grew darker with the storm. Fiona's phone, lying at the foot of the bed, started ringing with Chicago's special ringtone. A delicate hand reached out to grab it, but a larger hand got there first, silencing the phone with a single press before tossing it even further away.
"Darwin!"
"I'm here," Darwin murmured against her lips. "My hand slipped. Don't worry, we'll call Chicago back later. Just focus on us right now."
