Chapter 193 Debt Of Life Saved

Lilian looked at Darwin, her tears falling like a constant stream, her hands trembling non-stop.

Darwin had never seen Lilian like this. It reminded him of her once bright and cheerful appearance. If it hadn't been for him, she wouldn't have endured such painful experiences, nor would she be in her current predicament.

Seeing that Darwin remained silent, Lilian suddenly changed her demeanor, hugging her knees and shaking her head repetitively, "I'm sorry, so sorry! I shouldn't have said all that to you! Just pretend I'm under medication and talking nonsense."

"Lilian, have you been seeing a psychologist lately?" Darwin walked over and sat down beside her.

Lilian glanced at him, "I'm better now... I don't need to see a psychologist anymore, it's just that today, I've been a bit upset."

In the last couple of days, Lilian had been fixated on one thought, If she were humiliated, would Darwin stand up for her as he did the last time he met Chelsea?

As it happened, Miss Ford became the target of her trial.

Lilian had taken advantage of the situation to test him. But he had been there for so long and hadn't uttered a word about how to deal with Miss Ford.

Lilian was far from content.

"Darwin, if Miss Ford stays in this industry, she'll probably go work for another company, right? What if I run into her again? She hates me so much, she'll surely continue to slander and humiliate me," said Lilian as fear appeared on her face, and she suddenly grasped Darwin's hand.

Almost instinctively, Darwin wanted to withdraw his hand.

But Lilian was holding on tightly.

"Do you want her to disappear from this industry?" Darwin asked.

"Is that okay?" Lilian asked Darwin with a pleading look. "Miss Ford is so capable, she would surely excel in something else. I won't hold it against her for spreading rumors and insulting me. I just don't want to see her anymore, to not have my pain rekindled by her..."

"I understand," Darwin replied softly, his eyelids lowered, "I'll handle it."

Lilian's eyes remained downturned, still on the verge of tears.

But hidden beneath her shielded gaze was a smirk.

She was out for revenge against Miss Ford, spreading rumors after being blocked by Darwin.

She reveled in the thought that Miss Ford, that despicable woman, would never again step foot in a major company, and would be doomed to struggle in some dilapidated small business, never realizing her ambitions.

Little did she know, what Darwin had in mind was a transfer for Miss Ford to an overseas subsidiary to continue handling pre-sales.

He remembered Miss Ford very well.

That year, when Fiona got her hand cut by glass, it was Miss Ford who had taken her to the hospital, scrambling around to take care of her.

"Darwin, I'm so thankful for you," Lilian brought Darwin back from his memories, "otherwise, I really wouldn't know how to keep going in this world all alone."

Her words sounded deeply sincere.

Yet Darwin's heart was numb.

For a moment, his mind wandered, thinking about those carefully selected roses he had brought. Where were they now? Had she simply thrown them away?

"Lilian, you don't need to say such things," Darwin said, his eyes still downturned. "If it wasn't for you saving me back then, I would've drowned."

Lilian was taken aback.

It had been a long time since that incident was mentioned.

She forced a smile, her face growing paler by the second.

"Let's not talk about the past," she closed her eyes wearily, "Darwin, I'm tired, I want to sleep a bit. Can you stay with me? I'm still a bit scared..."

"Okay. I guess," Darwin responded.

Lilian exhaled deeply.

No more words were spoken.

In her mind, she recalled the first time she met Darwin.

"I've finally found you!" The young man had exclaimed as he ran up to her, his face beaming with an exceptionally bright smile.

In an instant, Lilian recognized him as the sole heir of the Solomons, Darwin.

"Looking for me?" she asked, her cheeks reddening as she twirled her long hair behind her. "Why?"

"Don't you remember me?" the young man stepped back, "Six years ago, on Valentine's Day night, at South Park's artificial lake, you saved me! You pulled me from the brink of drowning!"

After saying this, he looked at her eagerly, full of hope.

Lilian's heart raced.

Though the Robbins family was an old local enterprise, it was gradually declining.

And her parents were especially biased in favor of sons.

Any money at home was thought over and typically reserved for her brother.

But Lilian was ambitious and she refused to settle for such a life.

She gazed at the individual in front of her, the heir to the Solomons.

She thought this was a redemption sent by heaven, a ladder to the skies that could elevate her status with a single step...

"Ah... it's you..." Lilian exclaimed with a dawning realization, "You've grown so much. It was too dark that night, I didn't get a good look at your face, my apologies."

This was the beginning for her and Darwin.

Later, she pieced together bits of information from Darwin.

That night by the lake, it indeed was very dark. However, when the ambulance arrived, with its flashing lights, he still managed to catch a glimpse of a girl in the crowd, soaking wet, toweling off her hair with a white bath towel.

And he distinctly remembered her features.

Lilian figured even the universe was conspiring to help her.

After Darwin woke up in the hospital, he immediately wanted to find his savior.

But he was told that the young girl had quietly left, no one knew who she was, nor had she left any contact information.

Back then, surveillance technology wasn't so advanced.

Darwin looked for a long time, but there was no news of her.

Until six years later, he encountered her by chance...

If this wasn't divine intervention, what was it?

Lilian's emotions gradually calmed down.

Relying on her life-saving help and the fact that Anniston was forcing him to get married, the ever-responsible Darwin would never abandon her in this lifetime!

She would always be Darwin's savior.

Fiona drove home.

As the elevator doors opened, she was greeted by laughter and joyful voices.

Fiona's exhaustion disappeared in an instant.

"Mommy!" Chicago was the first to spot Fiona.

She immediately got up from Janna's lap and bounded into Fiona's arms.

Fiona expertly lifted her.

"Hmm? How did you get so much heavier since this morning?" asked Fiona.

"Because Grandma Janna fed the little hamster all day, and I couldn't stop her!" Ashton slouched on the sofa.

A hangover, a day of fatigue. But luckily, her work was all taken care of.

She could rest for a few days.

"Chicago is not a hamster!" Chicago clung to her mom's neck, nuzzling like a kitten, "Mommy, you smell so nice! Chicago loves hugging mommy the most!"

Everyone in the living room burst into laughter.

After cuddling with Chicago for a while, Fiona noticed Charles wasn't in the living room.

Setting down Chicago, she headed to the study.

Knocking on the door, she heard Charles inviting her in.

Fiona pushed the door open.

"What are you busy with?" Fiona sat next to Charles, asking curiously.

"Helping uncle with a bug in a program," Charles said as he tapped away on the keyboard, "Mommy, today Chicago told Grandma that she wants to find you a handsome husband."
