Chapter 542 Hypnotized

Meanwhile, Fiona and her group were at Grace's house.

"Mr. Spencer, this situation must be quite an ordeal for you," Fiona said as she brought out a suitcase and pushed it toward a middle-aged man.

Fiona had spared no expense in bringing in Spencer, a renowned hypnosis expert, knowing intimidation wouldn't faze Justin.

Fiona was after hard evidence of Justin's crimes, and in the past few days, Spencer had already met Justin three times.

Every time Spencer encountered Justin, he would hypnotize him in an attempt to uncover the truth.

Until yesterday, Justin left the hospital and climbed into the taxi driven by Spencer.

The hypnosis session with Spencer had officially begun.

While under hypnosis, prompted by Spencer's guidance, Justin divulged the entire process of the murder he committed.

"Good to hear," Spencer said, receiving the case full of cash without bothering to check its contents.

Spencer trusted the Rhoads family.

"I thought, Fiona, you just suspected there was a serial killer; I didn't realize..." Spencer gave Fiona a thumbs-up. "You have a strong ability to discern, Fiona."

As he tapped the case of money, Spencer continued, "This time, I'll consider it good karma to give away this money in the name of the victims."

"Spencer, if you really want to do something for the victims, I actually have a favor to ask of you," Fiona said with a smile.

"Go ahead." Spencer nodded.

"That victim named Toby had adopted a child, Ronald, whose parents had died. Ronald is very smart; he had excellent grades at Durham University. Unfortunately, because he rushed to avenge Toby, he fell into Justin's trap and ended up in jail for several months, eventually losing the opportunity to complete his PhD," Fiona expressed with regret. "I know you have connections in Country Y. Could you help Ronald continue his studies?"

"Give me his contact information," Spencer agreed readily.

"Then, I thank you in advance."

Fiona wrote down Ronald's contact information and gave it to Spencer. After completing his task, Spencer had a lecture to prepare for, so he left carrying the money.

In the living room, Selena's family all gathered, each looking somber.

"Justin killed so many people, making my parents live in guilt all their lives. Even sentencing Justin to death wouldn’t be enough for what he owed," Grace's son said angrily. "If only my little sister were alive..." The youngest son choked up, unable to continue.

"It's so unfair!" Grace cried.

Selena had been dead for many, many years, and even if Justin were sentenced for Maria's death, the justice Selena deserved would never come.

"Grace, rest assured." Thalassa, who had been mostly silent, placed a hand on Grace's hand. "From now on, I won’t let Justin enjoy a single moment of happiness."

Hearing this, as Justin described in his hypnotic state the things he said before Maria's death, Thalassa's hatred for Justin reached its peak.

Maria had come to her senses; she could have gotten away from that bastard Justin.

Just a little bit more, only a little bit more.

In her quest to reclaim her money, Maria tragically found herself on a path that led to her demise.

Tears welled up in Grace's cloudy eyes as she looked at Thalassa with immense sorrow. She had heard about the loss of both of Thalassa's parents.

"Don't let hate for Justin weigh you down, Thalassa. You need to live well, to be happy. That's what your mom and dad would want," Grace said tenderly.

Thalassa's lips were pressed tightly together as tears pooled in her eyes.

Leaving Grace's house, Thalassa stepped into the darkness of the night.

With a choked voice, Thalassa said, "Fiona, Maria must have been so scared when she died, in such darkness..."

Fiona wrapped her arms aroundThalassa, gently patting her back. "It's not your fault."

But Thalassa's emotions couldn't be contained.

"Why didn't I reply to the message, why didn't I give Maria another chance... She didn't have to die, it's my fault! It's all me!"

"Mama—" Thalassa's cry was heart-wrenching, and Fiona's eyes were streaming with tears.

But Fiona didn't know how to alleviate Thalassa's guilt.

The logic of the situation was like a puzzle without a solution.

With Justin's own admission of murder, the police rapidly found footprints belonging to both Justin and Maria near the reservoir road depicted by Justin. Additionally, they discovered the shoes he had worn on the day of the crime, hidden at his lover's house. The mud on the shoes matched soil samples from the crime scene.

Moreover, private surveillance footage near the location where Justin claimed to have picked up Maria captured images of the two together.
