Chapter 1472
Charlotte's eyebrows and eyes were striking, yet they conveyed a sense of subtlety.
Like clouds drifting at the edge of the sky.
The three women chatted and laughed as they made their way upstairs.
A breeze blew past from behind.
Charlotte instinctively turned around.
She locked eyes with the man who had just walked in through the door.
Their gazes met perfectly.
Charlotte calmly looked away, as if she hadn't seen him, and continued listening to Melissa.
"Is that Chicago and her friends?" Burl patted Charles, who had stopped in his tracks.
Both men had just returned from a business meeting.
They were dressed in sharp suits.
Burl no longer looked like a kid playing dress-up in adult clothes; now, his demeanor and every gesture exuded the confidence of a businessman.
"Melissa! Your mentor just called me. Did you get permission to leave? You just ran back!" Burl shouted, pointing at Melissa.
The people on the stairs turned around.
"Uncle Burl, my mentor is your junior anyway. Just give him a heads-up!" Melissa replied cheerfully. "Oh, and Charles, by the way, I broke the record you set at school last month!"
Charles looked over and gave her a thumbs-up.
"You talk so little, you might never find a wife!"
"Nonsense!" Chicago playfully flicked Melissa's forehead, then turned to Charlotte. "Charlotte, let's go change clothes. We'll be right back!"
Charles nodded.
Then they walked over to their parents and Janna.
"Which one of them upset you?" Burl caught up and asked Charles.
"No one," Charles replied coolly.
"Don't give me that. I could see you were upset from a mile away as soon as you walked in."
"Really?" Charles lowered his gaze.
Burl found it puzzling.
Even though they were twins and looked almost identical as kids, now their features were still similar, but he wouldn't immediately guess they were twins.
Identical features, yet not quite the same.
"Yes!" Burl mimicked Charles's tone.
"Good that you noticed," Charles said, not giving Burl a chance to respond, and strode inside.
"Charles!" Janna's eyes crinkled with joy when she saw her great-grandson, and she reached out her hands.
Charles stepped forward and gently held Janna's hands. "Great-grandmother, happy birthday."
Janna was touched. "Charles, I received your gift. Thank you."
"It was my pleasure." Charles nodded slightly.
"What gift?" Burl asked, pulling out his present.
It was a necklace with vibrant green gemstones, each one large and lustrous, clearly from an auction house.
"You won that necklace?" Fiona chuckled. "Thalassa was upset for two days!"
"The idiot who kept raising the bid was Thalassa??!" Burl looked helpless. "I could have gotten it for around thirty million dollars, but she pushed it up to fifty million!"
"If it weren't for an emergency at her company and her being unreachable, you wouldn't have gotten it for fifty million," Fiona laughed so hard that her cheeks hurt.
Burl looked frustrated.
But then he laughed heartily. "No worries, no matter how much it costs, as long as she's happy. Even if it costs a hundred million, I'd buy it!"
