Chapter 983

With Fiona's permission, Jessie didn't need anyone's help. It carried its dog bed and headed straight to Chicago's room.

Burl saw this and loudly praised it.

Upon hearing the praise, Jessie puffed out its chest and ran even more joyfully.

Fiona followed behind, both amused and annoyed.

"Mommy, can Jessie really sleep in my room?" Chicago asked excitedly as Jessie entered, having just finished chatting with Jonna.

"Jessie has brought its bed. Of course it's true," Fiona replied with a smile.

Perhaps to avoid making Darwin feel bad, Chicago removed the band-aid from her forehead and used her bangs to cover the wound.

"Thank you, Mommy!" Chicago threw herself into Fiona's arms, acting like a spoiled child.

That night, it was the liveliest in Chicago's room. Not only did Jessie sleep there, but Charlotte also stayed in her room.

As Fiona left Chicago's room, she saw Charles walking back, holding his pillow.

"Charles," Fiona called out.

Charles stopped and turned around. "Mommy."

Earlier, at Alexander and Stella's wedding, he had promised Preston to help them build a system. He had spent the entire evening discussing it with them. After he finished the work, it was time to sleep. He had taken a bath, changed into his pajamas, and picked up his pillow, intending to go to Chicago's room. His intention was not to guard against anyone but simply because Chicago had been frightened and didn't dare to sleep alone. He was going to keep her company.

At the door, he saw Jessie lying there, happily resting its chin on the threshold and lazily wagging its tail when it saw him. Then he heard Charlotte's voice. Realizing that Chicago didn't need his company, he turned to go back.

"Are you here to keep Chicago company?" Fiona asked, bending down with her hands on her knees.

Charles nodded and then said, "With Charlotte there, she won't be scared."

"Alright," Fiona said, patting his little head. "Uncle Preston just sent me a lot of voice messages, all praising you!"

Preston wasn't just praising. He was really fond of Charles.

Charles obediently nodded again, then took Fiona's hand and led her to his room.

Fiona accompanied him to his room, watching as he climbed into bed and lay down.

Charles said, "Mommy."

"Yes?" Fiona responded gently, sitting beside him.

"Do you feel like Chicago has grown up all of a sudden?" he asked softly.

In the past, Chicago was always Charles's little follower, always following him wherever he went. Whenever she was scared or upset, the first person she sought was always Charles. However, over the past year, since they returned to Armie, Chicago had gradually stopped clinging to Charles. She didn't mind that they didn't go to the same school. She had made many new friends besides the little animals and had become braver.

"Yes." Fiona noticed the change in Charles's emotions and nodded gently, her voice even softer. "But I think you've grown up a lot too."

"Really?" Charles looked at Fiona seriously.

"Of course. In the past, only I and your sister relied on you. Now, aren't there many more people? The engineering team at Daddy's company, Uncle Preston, and let's not forget all the friends who have been coming for you from morning till night during the summer vacation." Fiona counted on her fingers. "Over the past year, both you and your sister have grown well. I am happy but also a little sad."
