Chapter 524 Unimaginably Shameless
"It was because of my foster father!"
Ronald's hands clenched into tight fists.
"Maria was my foster father's first love. Justin violated her, then forced her to be with him, and because of that, my foster dad was forced to leave Anne!"
Fiona couldn't have imagined.
The extent of Justin’s depravity was far beyond her anticipation.
Fiona didn't speak.
She just listened quietly as Ronald continued.
"Initially, Anne was set to leave him, to elope with my dad, but then she got pregnant, and her parents found out. In the end, she had no choice but to marry Justin under pressure. My dad was heartbroken and left for Capital City. He never got over her, never loved again, and it was years before he adopted me."
Ronald's hand trembled as he took a large gulp of water.
"Life just went on, until one day, we got the news of Anne's suicide. My dad was shocked—Anne had reached out to him before that; she was preparing to divorce. Then suddenly, she was dead! How can someone planning to divorce just die out of the blue?"
"The same thing happened to Maria," Fiona said, her brows tightly drawn together.
"By the time my dad heard the news, it had been more than half a month, and Anne had already been cremated. My dad and some of Anne’s relatives made a fuss for a while, but it was no use." Ronald's fists were clenched tight. "After that, my dad began a long battle to seek justice, up until that year. He told me that there was a chance to catch Justin, but a month and a half later, my dad disappeared!"
The veins on Ronald's face bulged with rage.
“Following my dad's previous arrangements, I waited for his return while I continued my studies.
“Until five years ago.
“Police found a skeleton during road renovations.
“DNA comparison confirmed it was my dad.”
Fiona's brow was creased with urgency.
"It was Justin, it has to be him!" Ronald was fuming with anger. "The year after I graduated from grad school, I came straight back, posted this message, and then I went to confront Justin. He confessed to me—he'd killed my father!"
"Then, you just went and hit him?" Fiona inquired.
"Yeah! I wanted to cut him to pieces!" Ronald had utterly underestimated both Justin's audacity and his social standing at the time.
During Ronald's time behind bars, his girlfriend's family was constantly harassed by local thugs, leading to their breakup. After his release, trying to find a job became an impossible ordeal. Eventually, he resorted to tutoring, picking up odd jobs here and there to scrape by. All this wore down Ronald’s edge almost entirely. If Fiona hadn't shown up today, he'd still be tormented by how to avenge his father.
"Ms. Fiona, you've got more clout than he does. You must have a way to deal with him, right?" Ronald's eyes reddened. "All those people can't have died in vain!"
"Don't worry, they won't," Fiona assured him with solemnity.
"What do you need me to do? I'll do whatever it takes," Ronald declared immediately.
"Does your father have any footage of Anne?" Fiona asked.
"Sure." Ronald nodded. "He had an old camcorder. I uploaded all the footage to the cloud. I can send it to you right now."
"Good." Fiona nodded her approval.
The footage was forty years old and somewhat blurry. However, Anne, captured on camera, looked pure, lively, and absolutely beautiful as she looked into the lens. Thinking of what later happened to such a lovely girl filled Fiona with growing disgust for Justin.
After saying goodbye to Ronald, Fiona went to meet up with Carey.
"Sweetheart, here are the documents you asked for." Carey handed over the stolen files of Selena Alba, along with her parents' phone numbers and address. "After all these years, who knows if the old couple is still around."
"I'll check it out," Fiona responded gently.
"Sweetheart, aren't you putting yourself in danger by doing all this?" Carey asked with concern.
Speaking of danger, Fiona was immensely grateful that Carey had given up all of Charles's inheritance to Maria back in the day. Otherwise, with Justin's insane greed, she couldn’t fathom what extremes he might have gone to against the elderly woman.
"Just relax, even if Justin has the intention, he doesn't have the capacity," Fiona reassured her.
"I've taken some time off from work to look after Thalassa," Carey said sternly. "Once she's over the worst of it, I'll head back."
"That's fine, she likes the food you make. With you around, I don't have to worry about her going hungry."
“I’m grateful that Thalassa has a good friend like you by her side,” Carey said with teary eyes.
It's rare to see such mutual support and assistance, even among one’s own relatives.
Fiona called a cab and sent Carey off to her place.
Just as she was about to contact Selena Alba's family, Mike’s call came through.
“Fiona, Justin has taken people back to the villa, and our guys are stopping them. He's already called the police and contacted Ms. Thalassa.”
Fiona frowned in disgust. “I got it. Until Ms. Thalassa and I arrive, don't let them in even if the sky falls!”
“Understood.”
Fiona got into the car and dialed Thalassa as she started the engine.
Thalassa picked up quickly.
“I’m close by, if you don't want to see Justin, I can go there for you,” Fiona offered.
“No need,” Thalassa calmly refused. “If I don't show up, he’ll think I’m scared of him! It's a good thing I had the lawyer handle it earlier, the legal documents are ready to be shown to Justin.”
“Okay, see you there.”
Fiona hung up and floored the accelerator, heading straight for the villa.
Justin arrived with Walker and a bunch of bodyguards who looked like street thugs.
“I’ll say it again, this is our home!” Walker bellowed, “Didn’t Thalassa cut ties with our family? What does she mean by having these dogs block our way now?”
“Your home?” Mike asked with disdain and scorned, “Ms. Thalassa bought this house. I was there the day she signed the papers and paid!”
“No matter what you say, the property is in my stepmother's name; it's marital property and includes half of my dad’s share!”
“Guys, look at the shamelessness of this father and son. Let this be a warning; if I find out anyone among my men has the gall to be this disgraceful, I'll take them out myself!” Mike shouted fiercely.
Compared to Mike's crew, Justin's thugs seemed much more intimidated.
At that moment, police officers from the local precinct arrived.
Seeing the situation, they all frowned.
“What's going on here? Gathering like this, do you all want to spend a few days inside?”
