Chapter 701 A Love Letter That Arrived Late.

Chicago was fond of butterflies for some time. Janna doted on her and would always get everything she wanted. During that time, the house was filled with things in butterfly designs. Janna even spent a lot of money to have the Teodora Group design a set of diamond butterflies as a birthday gift for Chicago when she turned four.

What a coincidence. The designer of that jewelry was Harold.

Chicago and Harold were both astonished when they heard this. This high-end customer had not revealed their identity and only said it was a birthday gift for her granddaughter.

Harold himself loved this design.

Unexpectedly, it ended up being a gift for Fiona's daughter, Chicago.

Needless to say, Chicago preferred it. Though she had been a generous girl who once gave her butterfly ornaments to Darwin, she was inclined to give this gift away.

She always kept it in the vault in her room on the island.

"Mr. Klein, you're so talented!" Chicago immediately started complimenting him. "I really like those butterflies. I feel like they could fly away at any second!" She then held Fiona's finger and swung it a couple of times. "Mommy, let Mr. Klein see the butterflies I painted!"

"All right," Fiona responded, then explained to Harold, "She really likes the set of butterflies you designed, so she painted each one of them."

Saying that Fiona opened the photo album and quickly found the butterflies in the category of Chicago's drawings.

Harold took a look.

Harold's eyes were filled with astonishment.

He always knew that Chicago had a strong ability in colors.

But as a four-year-old child, it was truly awe-inspiring for her to use colors in such an extreme way and give his designed butterflies such magnificent vitality.

"Chicago is truly amazing," Harold sincerely marveled. "Fiona, can I invite Chicago to participate in my designs later on?"

Fiona was taken aback and then looked at Chicago. "You need to discuss with Chicago. I respect Chicago's decision."

"Sure, sure!" Chicago readily agreed.

However.

"Of course, it has to be done without affecting my studies!" Chicago was determined to be at the top of their grade that year!

"Of course!" Harold immediately responded with excitement.

Although Harold had only spent a few days with Fiona, he had fallen in love with her at first sight. Over the years, even when he thought Fiona had passed away, Harold could never let go of her. Recently, he found out she was still alive, but she had married Darwin. Harold had also been through an illness and had lost weight. Now, the flame of hope reignited in Harold's heart because of Darwin's death.

The first step Harold thought of was building a good relationship with the children, which gradually became embedded in Fiona's heart.

After talking for a while, Fiona's family left.

When they got home, the children took a shower and went to their rooms to sleep.

Fiona first said goodnight to Charles, then went to Chicago's room.

Chicago was sitting in a daze in front of the desk.

Fiona didn't notice when she entered.

"Darling?" Fiona gently called out to her.

Chicago immediately snapped back to reality and closed the desk drawer.

"Are you messaging Dad on Facebook?" Fiona walked up to her and asked gently.

After thinking for a moment, Chicago nodded. "Mommy, Mr. Klein likes you, right?"

Fiona was slightly startled, "Who told you that?"

"I'm not a three-year-old kid; I can tell!" Chicago pointed at her eyes and said, "Mr. Klein's eyes sparkle when he looks at you, just like Daddy's eyes!"

Fiona felt somewhat helpless.

"Mommy, are you going to remarry?"

Fiona was shocked and quickly said, "What remarrying? Didn't we agree to wait for Dad to come home together? Did someone say something at school?"

"No," Chicago shook her head and continued, "I won't go to Mr. Klein's place to draw anymore. I have to study hard."

Mr. Klein liked mommy.

He must be like that annoying kid at school, wanting Mommy to marry into his family!

Mr. Klein has ulterior motives!

Chicago didn't want to give him the chance to spend time with Mommy.

She wanted to wait for Dad to come back with Mommy!

"That's your own decision. You have to make up your mind." Fiona patted Chicago's head. "It's almost eleven. If you don't sleep now, you won't be able to wake up tomorrow."

"Yeah," Chicago said, opening her arms and hugging Fiona. "Mommy, you don't have to wake up so early tomorrow. Uncle Xavier can take us to school. You're too tired. Get some more rest!"

"I will take care of it." Fiona gently touched Chicago's head. "Don't overthink, little one."

Chicago responded with a nod, obediently climbed onto the bed, and laid down.

Fiona leaned over and kissed Chicago's forehead, saying, "Goodnight, baby."

"Goodnight, Mommy!"

Fiona walked to the door and, before turning off the lights, her gaze fell on Chicago's drawer where the phone was placed.

Did she send messages to Darwin every day?

Being ignored and not receiving a reply, Chicago must feel really down and sad, right?

Fiona felt a sharp pain in her heart.

At this time, everyone in the house was asleep.

Fiona returned to her and Darwin's room.

When they used to live together, she didn't feel the emptiness.

But now, Fiona looked around and couldn't help but feel that this room was too big and too cold.

Fiona took a bottle of wine from the wine cabinet, curled up in a chair in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, and stared into the pitch-black darkness outside.

Without a glass, she drank half the bottle straight from it.

Feeling a bit dizzy, she quickly washed up and collapsed back onto the bed.

Before long, she fell into a deep sleep.

She didn't know what she dreamt about.

Fiona furrowed her brows.

Tears kept rolling down from her eyes.

How much more time did she need to heal this pain?

How long would it take for Darwin to come back to her side?

Would Darwin never come back?

Time flew by.

The ice and snow melted away, and the cold winter silently disappeared.

It was once again the time of year when spring blossomed.

After Stuart's efforts throughout the winter, Emerald Pool Villa was filled with various flowers, and the fruit trees in the orchard bloomed one after another.

Darwin had known that Fiona loved iris flowers before they moved here.

He somehow managed to acquire a rare variety of iris flowers, and when they were planted, everyone was worried whether they would survive.

But under Stuart's magical touch, not only did the irises survive, but they also collectively bloomed on a sunny morning.

This day happened to be the first day of Fiona's vacation after working tirelessly for nearly three months.

All the family members gathered in the iris garden.

Fiona wore the thin shawl that Darwin had bought her, watching Kenny taking photos of Thalassa and Chicago.

Her heart was filled with both happiness and sorrow.

Kenny took a photo of Charles and Chicago's silhouettes and sent it to Fiona.

Upon receiving it, Fiona contemplated for a moment and finally updated her Facebook, which she hadn't done in a long time.

The accompanying picture was the photo Kenny had sent.

[A love letter that arrived late.]

These beautiful irises were the love letter that Darwin had sent to Fiona, arriving late.
