Chapter 610 Hey Sis, Do You Miss Me?

Lilian's countenance shaded incrementally as she confronted Simon's accusation. "You said I stole Fiona's life?" Her tone was a mixture of hurt and defiance. "It's Darwin's fault, he provoked me..."

Her gaze shifted to Simon, a silent plea hidden in the depths of her eyes. Disappointment tinged her expression, a silent reproach for his unexpected stance.

"I thought that no matter what, you would firmly stand by my side. I didn't expect you to be on Fiona's side too," Lilian voiced her dismay, her words laden with betrayal.

"Lilian!" Simon's response was tinged with anxiety, his regret palpable. Why hadn't he waited until she returned to broach this subject? Especially given her recent ordeal with the abortion...

Before Simon could elaborate further, the connection severed abruptly. Lilian terminated the video call and promptly removed Simon from her contacts.

Clutching her phone tightly, a dull ache throbbed persistently in her lower abdomen, a cruel reminder of recent events.

Discomfort gnawed at her, an unsettling feeling settling deep within her core.

After a brief pause, she made a fateful decision. Lilian scoured the internet for graphic images of infant corpses, intending to shock Fiona into remorse. "Thanks to you, I have already aborted this illegitimate child whose parents are unknown. You are the biggest culprit in his death, and he will haunt you!" she messaged, her fingers trembling with rage.

However, fate had other plans. The images, intercepted by the service provider, never reached Fiona's inbox, leaving Lilian seething with frustration.

Driven by desperation, she persisted, bombarding Fiona with the gruesome images. Yet, her efforts yielded no response until ten agonizing minutes later.

"I have taken a screenshot and exposed you," Fiona's reply finally arrived, sending a shockwave through Lilian.

Panicked, she attempted to retract the message, only to realize her mistake. The damage had been done.

"Fiona, how malicious you are! You will get your comeuppance, no...wait, the retribution won't come to you, it will only come to your two children!" Lilian's threat fell on deaf ears, her words impotent against Fiona's silent blockade.

Unbeknownst to Lilian, Fiona had severed all ties, leaving her messages unanswered and her threats unheeded. Her actions, once intended to inflict pain, now ricocheted back, wounding her own soul.

In the midst of her hysteria, Lilian's phone buzzed twice, momentarily diverting her attention.

Expecting a response from Fiona, she hastily checked her phone, only to be greeted by a message from an unknown number. "Hey sis, do you miss me?"

Stunned, she recoiled, her mind reeling with disbelief. There was only one person in the world who called her "sis" - Thomas. But Thomas was dead.

"He was dead. There are no ghosts in this world! Only people who pretend to be gods and ghosts!" Lilian muttered, her voice trembling as she verified the sender's number.

Identified only as "Unknown," the sender persisted, inundating her with messages.

As dread coiled in her stomach, Lilian attempted to maintain her composure. "Don't try to trick me with ghostly antics! I'm not afraid!" she retorted, her bravado masking a growing sense of unease.

Yet, her resolve faltered when another message arrived, accompanied by a chilling image. Lilian's blood ran cold as she beheld her mother's lifeless form.

"Lilian, why are you so malicious? Killing your own younger brother and your own mother! Aren't you afraid of retribution?" Thomas's accusations echoed hauntingly, piercing through Lilian's defenses.

Unable to bear the onslaught any longer, she powered off her phone, seeking refuge in darkness. But even as she shut herself away, a persistent voice echoed in her mind, a relentless reminder of her past sins.

Just as Lilian attempted to lock herself away from the world, a knock shattered the silence. Startled, she recoiled, her heart pounding with fear as the door swung open, revealing Simon's concerned visage.

"Ms. Robbins!" his voice carried a note of urgency, cutting through Lilian's spiraling thoughts.

Relieved that the newcomer wasn't Thomas, Lilian sighed as she glanced at the person who entered.

"What are you doing? Don't you know to knock before entering?" she chastised.

The person remained silent, prompting Lilian's explanation. "I knocked on the door, but you didn't respond. I was worried, so I came in," he replied.

Only Simon's generous payment persuaded him to endure this duty of guarding Lilian. As she calmed down, she realized he was her sole protector now. "Someone has been sending me threatening messages. He must be in the hospital. Don't go near the entrance!" she warned, her voice trembling with fear.

"Threatening messages?" the man furrowed his brow. "Let me see."

Though the messages contained damning accusations, Lilian couldn't bring herself to reveal them to anyone else. "I deleted them!" she claimed.

The man's silence hinted at his skepticism. He couldn't shake the feeling that Lilian was being deceitful. There were never any messages in the first place. She was merely manipulating him to curry favor with the Duke.

"Understood, I will guard the entrance. You are safe!" he assured before departing the hospital room.

As the door closed behind him, a janitor shuffled past, his stooped figure unremarkable under the mask he wore.

Just another member of the hospital staff, easily dismissed.

Standing guard, the man responded to Simon's message, reassuring him of Lilian's safety. [Inform Mr. Simon that Ms. Robbins is safe and doesn't need to worry.] He opted not to mention the alleged threats, knowing Simon had already dispatched numerous guards to protect her from the Darwins.

Initially planning to wait until he reached Armie, Simon couldn't bear Lilian's suffering and hastened her release on bail.

The night descended, casting shadows over Emerald Pool. Fiona stirred from her slumber, finding Darwin absent from their bed.

"Dawin?" she called out, her voice laden with sleep.

Awakening from his reverie, Darwin approached her, concern etched on his features. "Why are you awake? Did you have a nightmare?" he inquired, brushing her forehead gently.

Fiona shook her head. "Why aren't you sleeping?"

Moments ago, they had drifted off together, wrapped in each other's embrace.

"I'm pondering something," Darwin admitted, slipping under the covers beside her. "Go back to sleep, I'll be here."

"Did Lilian send you a message, cursing Charles and Chicago?" Fiona's inquiry was gentle, her worry evident.

Darwin's gaze was steady. "Yes."

"Don't worry about it, Charles and Chicago are safe," Fiona reassured, closing her eyes. "They have the elders' protection."

A soft chuckle escaped Darwin's lips.

He kissed Fiona tenderly. "I understand, now rest."

Silence enveloped them, yet Darwin remained awake, his mind preoccupied not with his children's safety, but with Lilian's fate.

The weariness crept upon Lilian's bodyguard as he sipped his coffee, but instead of invigorating him, it plunged him deeper into sleep.

Before long, he was unconscious on the couch.

Unnoticed, the janitor returned, pushing his cart through the fire exit. Placing it outside Lilian's room, he straightened his posture, his scarred hands gripping the door handle.

With a sinister intent, he entered the room where Lilian lay asleep, her recent surgery having left her vulnerable.

Staring at her with malevolence, he produced a syringe from his sleeve, injecting its contents into her arm without mercy.
