Chapter 1268
Hubert let out an awkward laugh.
"Yeah, the Solomon Family does owe the Everhart Family a life. Don't worry, I'll cut her some slack," Fiona said calmly. "She mentioned wanting to be my secretary today, so I'm planning to have her start work tomorrow."
"What?" Hubert was taken aback.
"Oh, by the way, Chicago really misses Darwin. When can he start video chatting with the kids?" Fiona switched the topic.
No point in talking about Rose any further.
Fiona had her own plans.
"He can video chat anytime, but Darwin starts physical therapy tomorrow, so he might not look too great," Hubert said carefully.
Fiona felt a pang in her heart. "Then set it up before his therapy."
"Got it!"
The call ended.
Fiona looked at the darkening sky and took a deep breath.
She then pulled herself together and went back to the living room to help Chicago with her homework.
After a while, Chicago suddenly tossed her homework aside.
"What's up?" Fiona asked gently.
"I don't want to do it anymore, Mom. I want to draw. Can I skip homework?" she asked, looking at Fiona with teary eyes.
"Sweetie, we agreed you can only skip homework once a year for stuff like this," Fiona pulled Chicago close and said softly. "If you skip it now, you can't do it again later."
"Okay." Chicago nodded lightly.
Fiona gently stroked her cheek. "Chicago, I know you miss Dad and are worried about him."
Hearing this, Chicago's tears started to fall.
"I talked to the doctor. In the next couple of days, Dad will video call you, but you can't cry like this." Fiona's tone stayed gentle. "Dad loves you a lot. Seeing you sad will make him worry, and he might not focus on his treatment. Do you want that?"
"No." Chicago shook her head, crying. "I want Dad to get better!"
"That's right!" Fiona nodded, wiping away Chicago's tears. "You're such a good girl, Chicago!"
"Will Dad really video call? Isn't he missing?" Chicago finally voiced her deepest fear.
Fiona chuckled softly, "Of course he's not missing! What are you thinking?"
"That's good!" Chicago snuggled into Fiona's arms, crying softly. "Mom, don't worry. When I video call Daddy, I'll be good and won't make him worry!"
"Good." Fiona gently patted Chicago's bottom. "So, are you going to finish your homework?"
"Okay!" Chicago cried a little longer.
Then, she finished her school assignments.
Around the same time, Rose, who was drunk at a bar, got a job offer.
