Chapter 1379
Rose stared at Fiona, completely taken aback.
"I... can I?" she stuttered.
Fiona chuckled, "Why are you so surprised? Darwin and I don't have many relatives left. Emerald Pool is huge. If it were just the four of us and a few scattered servants, wouldn't it feel empty?"
Rose glanced at Chicago and Charles playing frisbee with the golden retriever. "I only have Hubert by my side. I envy you for having so many friends and family. It's clear everyone here loves you a lot."
"Relationships are a two-way street. They love me because I treat them well," Fiona said calmly. "Give it time. The people at the company might not like your past behavior, but once they see you're changing, they'll come around."
Rose nodded, "Alright, I'm still your secretary. I won't let you down!"
"Don't let me down," Fiona smiled.
Rose could see why Darwin was so captivated by Fiona. She was stunning, with a calming presence that made people feel at ease. The more you talked to her, the more refreshed you felt.
Just then, the golden retriever ran over to Fiona, grabbed her sleeve, and pulled her towards Charles and Chicago.
"You go play with them, I'll stay here and enjoy the fresh air!" Rose said quickly.
She watched Fiona play with the cat, dog, and kids. The cat, perched on Stuart's head, would run to Fiona, showing its belly for her to pet. The usually rambunctious golden retriever was gentle around her.
Watching this, Rose felt a pang of longing. If only she truly belonged here. The thought startled her.
"Ms. Everhart, what are you daydreaming about?" Wyatt's voice came from behind.
Rose turned to him. "Hello, Mr. Durham."
Wyatt looked towards Fiona. "She's very gentle, isn't she? Like the warm sun in spring."
"Yes," Rose nodded. The description was spot on. The warm sun in spring nourished the earth and brought life to everything.
"But don't be fooled by her," Wyatt said coolly.
Rose looked at him, surprised. Was he about to badmouth Fiona?
"Underneath her gentleness is an iron fist," Wyatt said with a smile. "If you work for her, you must be obedient and work hard. Don't have any bad intentions. If she catches you, you'll see just how deceptive her gentleness can be."
He wasn't badmouthing Fiona. He was giving Rose advice.
"Mr. Durham, when I went to your company with Mrs. Solomon before, I didn't behave well and left a bad impression, didn't I?" Rose asked.
Wyatt neither confirmed nor denied it.
"Mrs. Solomon scolded me harshly. I was too influenced by my mother. After that day, I had a sudden realization. I've been working hard to change these past few months," Rose said gently.
"I heard you solved a tricky problem in the project team and even mediated a dispute between two departments. Fiona praised you, saying you have potential and is planning to give you a very good project," Wyatt said. "That's why I'm giving you this advice. Work hard and don't have any ulterior motives. Otherwise, the more gentleness she shows you, the more terrifying it will be."
"Thank you, Mr. Durham. I'll remember that!" Rose replied.
After Wyatt finished speaking, he called out Jessie's name and walked briskly towards them.
