Chapter 1255

Probably because Fiona knew what was coming for Aiden, she still cried, even though his words were full of happiness.

The happy moments were pretty short.

After that, it was just a simple rundown of the weather and months.

After jotting down the weather for over three months, Aiden's writing started to get messy.

[Today those talking mushrooms came again. They said Marisole sent them. I want to go with them. I want to see Marisole, I miss her so much. But I failed. I broke my leg. My mom cried. Why did she cry? Shouldn't I be the one crying?]

[Failed again. Why do I always fail? My mom is too powerful. She filled my house with seawater. I can't cross it. I can't leave her cage. I can't see Marisole.]

[I made some new friends, the little animals in the garden. I made a deal with them. They would help me find Marisole, and I would give them food. But my mom didn't agree. She cried again, saying the animals don't exist. I climbed a tree to call Squirrel Jimmy down to talk to my mom. Jimmy is good at persuading. Maybe my mom would listen and let me see Marisole.]

[Miss you, miss you, miss you.]

Pages and pages were filled with "miss you."

Aiden's handwriting was usually beautiful, but these "miss you" words were scribbled and had dried tear stains.

[My mom is crazy, but she says I'm crazy. I saw Aldrich. I know they're going to lock me up. I have to hide this diary. I hope I come back alive.]

[No, I won't come back alive. Brooke doesn't love me. I'm just a tool for her, a tool to show off. I will die, to punish her, I will die.]

[I hate you, Brooke.]

That was the last sentence in the diary.

Darwin sat on the black leather sofa, covering his face with his hands, like he was trying to hide.

"Did you finish reading the diary?" Hubert asked.

Darwin nodded.

"And then? Did you show the diary to your grandma?" Hubert added.

Darwin lifted his head. "No, she can't see it. She would go crazy."

"You love her very much," Hubert said gently.

Darwin's expression was kind of numb and confused. "Love? She's my only support."

Hubert didn't push the matter further.

It wasn't the right time yet.

He needed Darwin to understand who Aiden really was.

"Where's the diary now? Did you destroy it?" Hubert continued.

"That was his pain and cry when he was alive. How could I burn it?" Darwin lowered his eyelids. "I put it in the safe, along with the photo with the scratched-out face."

"Darwin." Hubert looked at him. "Then think again, who is he really?"

Darwin's neck stiffened. He looked at Aiden.

In his mind, something was slowly becoming clear.

"It's me, and also my father," Darwin said, tears streaming down his face.

Fate can be really cruel sometimes.

Before Darwin knew Aiden was his father, he already deeply understood Aiden's pain in life.

He knew that Aiden hated Brooke to the core.

But in the end, Aiden died, and Brooke still managed to have his child.

From the moment he knew his own background, Darwin knew that his existence was utterly disgusting to Anniston who bore him, to Nathaniel who had been cold to him for years, and to Aiden, besides for Brooke.

Darwin knew he was the embodiment of Brooke's control, which was synonymous with filth.

From that day on, his life trajectory completely changed.

He put away all his inner softness and wrapped himself tightly in a spiked armor, not letting anyone get close.

However, the girl who saved him from the water was an exception.
