Chapter 1149

Fiona's hand froze mid-air.

Darwin's reaction was intense.

He stepped back, snapping her out of her thoughts. He realized his reaction was too suspicious.

"Honey, it's really nothing. If I feel unwell, I'd tell you," Darwin said cautiously, stepping closer.

Fiona stared at him. "I want to see the wound."

How could she not be suspicious?

When Darwin stubbed his toe, he'd complain for ages. If his wrist was cut, he'd usually show her right away, seeking sympathy.

But since he got hurt, he never showed her, even when she asked.

If it was minor, he wouldn't hide it.

Darwin stayed silent.

They stood there, locked in a silent standoff.

After a moment, Darwin lowered his eyes. "I was afraid you'd worry."

"If you don't show me, I'll worry more." Fiona said sternly. "Darwin, this is the last time I'm asking. I want to see the wound!"

Darwin sighed.

He rolled up his sleeve, revealing a wrist covered with a waterproof bandage.

Fiona didn't hesitate. She tore off the bandage.

Seeing the red, almost healed wound, she gasped.

Darwin stood there like a guilty child.

He wanted to pull his hand back, hiding the twisted scar, but didn't dare move, fearing her anger.

"Are you still saying this was an accidental razor cut? How could such a deep wound really be an accident? Did you..." Fiona's words stuck in her throat as she stared at Darwin.

Tears rolled down her cheeks.

Since Darwin's return, she hadn't cried much.

This time, he was completely flustered.

"Honey, don't overthink it. I didn't do this to myself," he said quickly. "Remember the day I lost my cane? I was supposed to come home for dinner after some business, but that kid called me. He'd run away and spent the night in the park. I was worried, so I went to check on him."

Darwin pointed to his wound. "The kid took me through a small gate, and the path was covered in thorny vines. I got scratched, not just on my hand, but elsewhere too. I was afraid you'd be angry, so I went to Starry Century to treat my wrist and changed clothes before coming home. I left my cane in the park, and by the time Xavier looked for it the next day, it was gone."

"You think I'm a fool? The razor just happened to cut your wrist, and the thorns just happened to scratch the same spot?" Fiona cried. "Darwin, don't do this, I'm scared!"

Darwin was at a loss.

"Despite everything you've done to hide it, she still uncovered the truth," a voice said from behind him.

Darwin's body went rigid. He acted as if he hadn't heard, not turning around, not responding.

"I'm not lying. Tomorrow morning, I'll take you to that park, okay?" Darwin said softly, wiping Fiona's tears. "Or, you can take me to that psychologist you saw last time and let him diagnose me."

"Idiot, what are you thinking? Do you know who that psychologist is? What if he wants to harm us? Are you so eager to please this woman that you've lost your mind?" The person who looked exactly like Darwin said, still wearing that sharp black suit, with his hair meticulously combed.
