Chapter 1484
The moment the mechanical voice chimed in, the whole house lit up.
"Welcome home, dear owner. Late-night homecoming mode is now active. The bathtub will be filled with warm water in ten minutes. After a long day, a hot bath will help you sleep better."
Charlotte paused for a moment, then suddenly laughed.
After all these years, the smart system Charles had set up was still working.
What a shame.
The system was still running, but the lover who once lived here was gone.
Soon enough, Charlotte's smile faded.
She walked into the living room.
The house was spotless, clearly well-maintained.
This was the house Charlotte had bought.
After she and Charles separated, she hadn't returned here.
A flood of emotions surged within her.
She took a deep breath.
Her intuition told her she should leave now, or trouble might arise.
But her emotions tugged at her intuition.
"Next year, I'll be leaving Armie, and I might never come back! What's wrong with staying one night? Charles is still at the banquet hall entertaining guests; he won't come here!"
Caught in an internal struggle, Charlotte headed upstairs.
The entire second floor was a suite.
She heard the sound of water running.
Charlotte pushed open the door, a gust of wind from the window rustling the white curtains.
The bedroom was also very clean.
She walked in.
The bedspread was exactly as it had been when Charlotte left.
She walked to the bed.
Exhaustion washed over her.
She collapsed onto the bed, arms spread out.
The air smelled of cleaning products, and Charlotte sighed in relief.
At least there was no trace of Charles.
She thought she'd lie down for ten minutes and then leave.
But the bed was just too comfortable.
Lying there, her mind wandered, wondering why the beds she bought outside were so uncomfortable.
Maybe she should take the mattress with her?
After all, this was her property, and everything inside should be hers too!
It was a good idea.
She'd have to find out tomorrow how to ship the mattress overseas.
With these jumbled thoughts, Charlotte turned over, curled up, and fell asleep without any defenses.
The smart system hadn't been updated in years.
It was a bit faulty.
The bathtub kept filling with water, overflowing, and the faucet didn't stop.
The night breeze gently moved the curtains.
After a while, someone walked into the bathroom and quietly turned off the faucet.
The cuffs of his suit pants were soaked by the water on the floor.
Charles looked at the overflowing bathtub.
His Adam's apple bobbed.
Then he turned and walked out.
As soon as he left, the person on the bed woke up with a start.
Charlotte almost kicked the intruder.
But when she saw who it was, she quickly pulled back, awkwardly falling to the floor.
Her arm hit the edge of the bed, and she winced in pain.
Charles frowned deeply.
He took a quick step forward, "Let me see."
"It's nothing, it's nothing." Charlotte felt the situation was too embarrassing, "I was planning to sell this house, so I came to take some photos for the realtor, I..."
Charlotte didn't finish her sentence.
Cool fingers grasped her chin, and Charles lowered his eyes, silencing her with a kiss, cutting off her clumsy excuse.
